  • Quiet dog-friendly site surrounded by the Ayrshire countryside
  • A 40-minute drive from Ayr beach; 45 minutes from Loch Bradan
  • Alpaca trekking and free use of a metal detector available on site
Away to Ayrshire for hiking-ready countryside, lochs, clear skies – and exotic neighbours? Then pack your bags for a stay at The Wee Caravan Park, a quiet dog-friendly site in the Ayrshire countryside, where you'll be sharing your space with a friendly herd of alpacas. From this spot just outside New Cumnock, you’ll be well based to break into Burns country, with Ayr beach 40 minutes’ drive away and Loch Bradan 45 minutes’ drive away. The South West 300 route is also a short drive away. Where will you be settling down? Well, the pitches are part of an area of land fenced off from Laneburn, with your woolly neighbours in the adjacent field and alpaca trekking and meet-and-greet activities available on site. Fresh water is provided and logs and kindling are available upon request; both barbecues and firepits are allowed. Dogs (on a lead) are welcome, and children too – so you won’t need to leave anyone behind. And it should be easy to fill your time with activities for all: there are lots of top spots for a picnic on site, hilly footpaths nearby and a free metal detector is available for budding treasure hunters. While things are peaceful around the site, there’s a little buzz down in New Cumnock. The town, five minutes’ drive away, has a food shop, Chinese and Indian takeaways (deliveries available to the site), a chemist, petrol station, outdoor swimming pool and bakery, so you won’t have too hard a task finding your essentials.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-kept site with stunning views, renowned for its incredibly friendly and helpful owners, Craig and Kerry. Guests rave about the unique experience of interacting with and feeding the alpacas, making it a hit with children and adults alike. While basic, with no toilet facilities, the provision of picnic tables and fire pits, along with the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, makes it highly recommended.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent pitch

Liked Great stay again at The Wee Caravan park, ideal location to get away from it all with countryside views and fire pit available. Children, 10,8 and 1 loved the Alpacas. Drinking water available and facilities as described. Good phone signal for hotspot. As their is no limit on pitch size, perfect for my first use of the inflatable, wood burning stove Holawild Machu Pichu tent.

Liked Open pitch with open field that has tables and places for bbq and fire pits .. if you like a place that has amazing views and alpacas in the next field that are the most amazing animals. No noise from the alpacas as they are an amazing and have a bed time and watching them all run up the fields is something to watch.. Craig and keirie (sorry for spelling) are the most beautiful people you will ever meet. Can't wait for another visit.. and maybe a drambuie Craig haha

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The owners Graig and Kerrie are phantastic and friendly people. In many years of camping in Europe we have never met such kind owners. At receipt, they invited us to meet the herd of alpaca’s. Although we did not know eachother, we communicated like friends. The camping is small, clean, quiet and located on a hill with beautiful view over the countyside. We look forward to visit the camping in the future and meet our new Scottish friends again.

Liked Kerrey and Craig were so welcoming, kind and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay special, including a packet of marshmallows and wood for the fire.
We really enjoyed meeting and feeding the alpacas, the creas (babies) especially, as well as seeing the studio where Kerrey turns the alpaca fleece into beautiful products. We also enjoyed meeting Mrs Pickles the 21 year old sheep.

If you have your own facilities, I highly recommend this wonderful spot.

Liked Craig and Kerrie were so welcoming and lovely which makes all the difference. The site is simple, no loos which suits us just fine. The views are beautiful across the valley and the alpacas were fun to watch. Craig very kindly showed us round their small holding chatting us through their set up. Kerrie is a talented fibre artist be sure to have a look at her creations! It’s a bargain of a site and we will be back if passing through again. Thank you!

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent pitch

Liked So peaceful and Craig and Kerry couldn't be more welcoming. Once we were set up, Craig came down on the quad and duly asked the wee guy if he wanted a shot to come and meet the alpacas - many of which were heavily pregnant. We visited the barn and met Kerry and the alpacas and my son fed them while we chatted over a drink. This really captured my son's imagination, he asked loads of questions about their babies and he talked about it for the rest of the night! Craig and Kerry were so patient and it really made the weekend. We went back to the tent and toasted marshmallows before seeing the heron come out for a wander at dusk. Cannot recommend the site enough and we will be back. Thanks so much!

Local attractions

Admiring Ayrshire’s dark skies is easy at the Loch Bradan (45 minutes’ drive) dark sky park, and classic seaside days can be had Ayr beach (40 minutes). As for Robert Burns fans, take yourself away to the Burns House Museum (25 minutes), the Highland Mary's Monument (25 minutes) and Bachelors' Club (half an hour), a 17th-century thatched cottage frequently visited by the man himself. Add a few historical sites into the mix, beginning with the 18th-century house and estate at Dumfries House (15 minutes) or steam train rides on the Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway (45 minutes). There’s the Museum of Lead Mining (40 minutes) if you’re interested in the industrial side of things. Drumlanrig Castle (40 minutes) makes a splendid – and very original – setting for hiking and mountain biking too. Digger driver for the day? Blackstone Clydesdales (20 minutes) has digging experiences and horse riding activities. In New Cumnock (five minutes), there’s also an open-air swimming pool, a golf course and a heritage trail, as well as access to a walking path network where you can stroll as far and as wide as you like.
