  • Scenic site 10 minutes' drive from Oban, with views to Kerrera island
  • Ferries, whisky distillery and horse riding within 10 mins' drive
  • Play area and shop on site; dogs welcome
For some folk, Oban is a jumping-off point for trips to the spectacular Scottish islands; for others, it’s a very handy location simply for sinking into the gentle pace of rural Highlands life while still keeping convenient access to shops and other amenities. Whichever of those groups you fall into, a fine base awaits at Oban Holiday Park, a spacious and peaceful site in Gallanchmore, about 10 minutes’ drive south of the Oban. It’s a scenic spot indeed, with views out over the sea to the island of Kerrera (which you can take a closer look at by boarding a ferry less than a mile away). There are plenty more options for island hopping from the harbour in Oban, whether you’re doing a grand tour or just taking day trips. The town also has a good collection of shops, restaurants and things to do, including a cinema and golf course – not forgetting the option for a stroll along the seafront at sunset, watching the boats bobbing in the harbour. Staying here isn’t all about the islands, of course – there’s a whole heap of things to see on the mainland too, including castles, gardens and a whisky distillery. Activities are plentiful too, with pony trekking and scuba diving close by as well as a good choice of places to go for walks and bike rides. On site, all is nicely convenient too, with a small food shop, chemical disposal and modern toilets and showers; there’s also a play area where the kids can have a good run about. The site is supported by natural water springs, so you'll need to boil any water you intend to consume or drink bottled water instead.

What customers say

This campsite benefits from a beautiful location with stunning views, conveniently situated a short walk or drive from Oban. Staff are frequently praised for being friendly and helpful, and many visitors appreciated the spacious pitches and clean facilities. However, several reviews highlighted issues with the water supply requiring boiling, limited and dated shower/toilet facilities, and muddy or sloping pitches, particularly after rain. Some guests felt the site was better suited for static caravans than touring units and that the value for money was questionable given the facility limitations.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location
Reception staff
Shop availability

Disliked Female shower area very small, no space to change into clean clothes.

Almost no wifi/internet signal possible unless at reception shop.

A bit cut off from Oban, probably 1 hour walk single track, no pavement, and only way back is a taxi at £10 unless you drive

Possibly a shuttle bus service there and back 3 times a day?

Heavy rain end of July so pitch was quite waterlogged.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything…
I’m not sure where to start. We arrived late afternoon and wish we read all the negative reviews prior to booking. At arrival we were told that we were on a grass electrical pitch and told to follow the site down to the end where there’s a field for all pitches. The pitches aren’t numbered. There’s electric posts around the edges and it’s first come first serve for getting as close as possible. We arrived at around 4pm so there was an okay places to choose, but as the evenings gone on campers are having to squeeze up close to others or on extreme slopes. Now onto the toilet facilities (if you can call them that) the gents has a large and bitter odour, not a single clean tile and floor of the urinal covered in an unknown liquid. There’s mould growing in the showers. Grass and other substances on the floor throughout and you feel even dirtier leaving then before entering. In the cubicles the water has a brown tinge even after flushing. The washing up facilities are poor, again water out the taps comes out brown and doesn’t effectively clean, we had to bring our cooking equipment back after and clean it with our own water. At the washing up facilities there’s 4 sinks which all have to share the same plug which is fairly counter productive. We were told that the water isn’t suitable for drinking and you’d need to boil it first but we didn’t know it would be this extent and I still wouldn’t trust it post boil. It just feels like this parks priorities their higher paying guests in the lodges and there’s not much care at all for those campers. The views across the park were spectacular and those fixed lodges are positioned in a way to see all across the beautiful mountains and over to neighbouring isles. But the camping section on the other hand is just tucked away, yes the views are still good but no where near what you can see throughout other areas. thankfully I’ve got a fairly large camper so can shut ourselves away in the evening. We paid £70 for the ‘privilege’ of staying here and truth be told it’s not worth half of that. This was our last stop on our Scotland road trip and all the others have been superb it’s just a shame we had to leave it on a negative note..

Liked Location, fascilities are clean. Staff are very helpful.

Disliked No communal area were campers with small tents can sit and eat, play a game or do cooking. Cooking fascilities are limited and can quite easily be improved. Quite a lot of rubbish.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location was ideal as a base for our day trip excursions. The customer service was great, we were given free fresh duck eggs when I visited the shop for some bits and bobs and discovered they didn’t stock eggs.
Friendly neighbours during our stay and the campers kitchen was ideal for re freezing our ice packs.

Disliked Would have appreciated more frequent shower cleaning checks during peak times. Sharing one shower became difficult as the week became busier.
We weren’t sure about ‘hot tub rules’ but it was noisy on two nights post 10pm. On the campsite that noise travelled along with music.

Local attractions

Getting out to see the surroundings? There are lots of lovely walks to be done nearby, or you can hire bikes in Oban (10 minutes’ drive) for scenic cycle rides. Achnalarig Riding Stables (10 minutes) is another option, for pony and horse riding lessons or treks – or you might like to see what’s out at sea by joining a scuba trip from Puffin Dive Centre (five minutes’ walk). Once you’ve viewed Kerrera from your pitch, head up the road (five minutes’ drive) to board a ferry over to the island – there’s a great seven-mile walking trail that runs from the harbour and will show you some of the island’s best bits. For other islands, it’s a 10-minute drive to Oban harbour, where services run to Lismore, Mull, Iona and Coll as well as more far-flung destinations. Back on the mainland, you may like to stop by at Dunstaffnage Castle (20 minutes), the Green Shoots garden (15 minutes) and Cruachan Dam Visitor Centre (35 minutes) – and don't forget a dram at Oban Distillery (10 minutes)…
