  • Family holiday park with spectacular Loch Lomond views at Ardlui
  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park access from the pitches
  • Bar, restaurant and entertainment throughout the year at Ardlui Hotel
Up at the northernmost tip of Loch Lomond, Ardlui Holiday Home Park is a small site with a range of accommodation, all overlooking the water. That’s right – the park has a fabulous location in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, making it easy for walkers, cyclists, photographers and wildlife watchers alike to get out on the hills directly from the pitches, or to get down to the loch for watersports and fishing. This site is also a handy overnighter for anyone ‘doing’ the West Highland Way, which runs along the east side of the loch between Fort William and Milngavie. The walking route is accessed via a ferry from Ardlui Marina, which is only five minutes’ walk away. Kids and dogs are welcome at this friendly site, and there are plenty of facilities to make life comfortable and convenient for all guests – you'll have the use of a launderette, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with toilets and showers. The Ardlui Hotel is a few steps away too, serving homemade food in the cosy restaurant and a plethora of whiskies – just what you need as a pick-me-up after a day out in the bracing Scottish air – and beers in the welcoming pub. In the pub, you’re welcome to play pool, fire up the jukebox or warm up by the log stove in the winter. There are also lively entertainment nights throughout the year in the hotel.

Liked: Clean facilities, fantastic location, view of the loch was stunning and there was a really nice pub next door. Nothing to fault and we were upgraded (for free) to a loch side view because one was available. We’ll be back.

Disliked: Not a dislike as such but there was no WiFi. Not as issue for us as we wouldn’t have needed it anyway.

Liked: The views were stunning.
The toilet block was lovely and warm.

Disliked: Well where do I start
1) The owners had absolutely no customer service skills.
2) The owners or workers had 2 dogs that went between the house in the marina and a waterfront caravan and one of the dogs attacked my young Welsh Terrier. Good job I saw it coming and picked my wee pup up I was terrified.
3) There was nowhere to walk the dog unless it was round the static caravans or on the busy main road.
4) Unbelievable that the only toilet block was closed for cleaning before 10am.
5) No recycling on site whatsoever and rubbish went in bins with no lids at the front of the site.
6) The site looked like it had been taken over by a family that were just looking to make a quick profit and taking advantage of the fabulous views disregarding customers.
7) No shop or supplies on site.
It was just an awful site I would definitely not recommend it unless you are a self contained unit stopping for 2 days max and midweek I can imagine the weekends would be awful with noise and jet skis.

Liked: The view

Disliked: Booked with Pitch.com and booking didn’t show on the system at site. Man scolded us saying Pitch are rubbish and said come direct next time. (Don’t have your site on pitch if it’s no good). The guy seemed very disorganised as another tourer was cleared off their pitch whilst someone else waited to move in!!
Site was untidy, toilets never cleaned, only two loos and no loo paper in one for our stay. Never seemed to be a member of staff around if you needed them. No shops nearby at all. Pitches packed in close together. There is a train station close by and a pub on site. (Food expensive but mediocre!)
It’s a shame, it’s a great spot and my advise is tidy it up, have someone on site to keep areas tidy and clean(toilets), have a little honesty shop with essentials.
On the plus, there is a watersport hire centre on site.

Fully-serviced gravel and sand touring pitch (waterside)

Liked: The view and location was absolutely amazing. Walked right from my van into the loch for a swim.

Disliked: They were having ongoing issues with the water supply throughout my stay. One evening I couldn't shower (they had to send me down to the Marina shower block) and for much of the week I couldn't get water from the tap on my pitch. The issues about the water were not communicated properly. I feel they should have at least sent a text out to everyone so we could make alternative arrangements and known in advance if we were unable to shower.

I also found it very odd that check-in was from 1pm, but then the warden goes off on lunch for 45-minutes from 1.30-2pm. I arrived around 1.45pm with no instructions on finding my pitch and the warden said he was on lunch and would come to check me in after he'd finished. A slightly odd policy.

The ladies' toilets are small but fine - always very warm, but there was also always a bit of a flood in there with water all over the floor even if noone had just showered.

Liked: Decent facilities and lovely waterside setting at the park.

Disliked: The cabin is tucked in behind the wardens hut. Directly to the left is empty oil drums, machinery store and an untidy view.

Liked: The view
Toilets were clean

Disliked: VERY noisy seasonal pitches- noise did not stop till 3am. These people seemed to do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. Jet skis out at 10pm. Tents pitched on the grass (despite the site rules saying no tents).
Constant comings and goings all day and all night in various vehicles/modes of transport (eg. Rangers x 2, electric scooters, 4x4s, jet skis)
noisy owners from chalets playing loud music into the small hours.

Preschool child from the marina house left to roam alone. Had a very fast metal motor buggy and no helmet! Could have crashed into anyones car or caravan and parents would never have known. Accompanying dog also roaming. Since he was playing with our children we felt somewhat responsible.

Ok for 1 night stop over.

Dog poo on grass.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to get stuck into within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park if you’re a keen hiker, climber or cyclist. If you’d rather take a scenic drive, the Rest and Be Thankful Viewpoint (half an hour’s drive) is a fine spot to pull over. There are also boat cruises on Loch Lomond (35 minutes) for explorations that don’t require much walking. Can’t relate? Don’t worry, just don a pair of hiking boots (or skis if it’s winter) and set about the Glencoe (40 minutes) slopes. Queen Elizabeth Forest Park (an hour) is also a handy spot for a good ramble or some biking. There’s also the stunning hike at Ben A'an (an hour and 10 minutes) for views over Loch Katrine and Loch Achray. Ben More (20 minutes) is a slightly more local spot, and a challenging climb if you really want to get the blood pumping. While you're here, you may fancy checking out some of the nearby castles. Dumbarton Castle (40 minutes) is a striking one set on a volcanic rock overlooking the sea. Inveraray Castle (50 minutes) on the shore of Loch Fyne is also spectacular, with huge gardens, a tearoom and castle room tours.
