A walker's pod
The pods for walkers
Pod with private parking

  • Family holiday park with spectacular Loch Lomond views at Ardlui
  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park access from the pitches
  • Bar, restaurant and entertainment throughout the year at Ardlui Hotel
Up at the northernmost tip of Loch Lomond, Ardlui Holiday Home Park is a small site with a range of accommodation, all overlooking the water. That’s right – the park has a fabulous location in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, making it easy for walkers, cyclists, photographers and wildlife watchers alike to get out on the hills directly from the pitches, or to get down to the loch for watersports and fishing. This site is also a handy overnighter for anyone ‘doing’ the West Highland Way, which runs along the east side of the loch between Fort William and Milngavie. The walking route is accessed via a ferry from Ardlui Marina, which is only five minutes’ walk away. Kids and dogs are welcome at this friendly site, and there are plenty of facilities to make life comfortable and convenient for all guests – you'll have the use of a launderette, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with toilets and showers. The Ardlui Hotel is a few steps away too, serving homemade food in the cosy restaurant and a plethora of whiskies – just what you need as a pick-me-up after a day out in the bracing Scottish air – and beers in the welcoming pub. In the pub, you’re welcome to play pool, fire up the jukebox or warm up by the log stove in the winter. There are also lively entertainment nights throughout the year in the hotel.

Fully-serviced gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked The view.

Disliked If I wanted to stay in a car park, I'd have paid the £12.50 down the road to stay in the car park pitches on the side of the road rather than in this awful place. The pictures are completely misleading. Behind the 'pitches' is a massive static caravan park. The car park you get shoved in to 'pitch up' at is completely close quarters, squished up against each other. Our experience involved being next door to someone being allowed an american style tailgate party, rowdy music in the caravans behind us and off lead dogs coming and bothering our on lead dog throughout our stay. The toilets were flooded constantly. Nothing peaceful about this place. Safe to say we arrived, slept and left as soon as possible. Would never stay again.

Camping pod

Liked Camping pods are standard and clean. Staff were very friendly. Park is in a beautiful location. Good ferry connection for walking the west highland way. Is located in a popular place to hire water sport equipment i.e jet skis, boats, paddle boards

Disliked We camp a lot both under canvas and in pods and we weren't a massive fan of this site. The camping pods are located behind the reception block facing onto caravans and have tractors and maintenance equipment behind them, not the most picturesque. I also felt the pods were too close together. The womans toilet block wasn't very clean on the night we visited but the gents was spotless. The food at the attached hotel is good and staff very friendly but service is very, very slow so be warned if you plan on eating there. You also cant be served breakfast/coffee at the hotel unless you are a hotel guest despite a sign on the outside saying open for breakfast.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to get stuck into within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park if you’re a keen hiker, climber or cyclist. If you’d rather take a scenic drive, the Rest and Be Thankful Viewpoint (half an hour’s drive) is a fine spot to pull over. There are also boat cruises on Loch Lomond (35 minutes) for explorations that don’t require much walking. Can’t relate? Don’t worry, just don a pair of hiking boots (or skis if it’s winter) and set about the Glencoe (40 minutes) slopes. Queen Elizabeth Forest Park (an hour) is also a handy spot for a good ramble or some biking. There’s also the stunning hike at Ben A'an (an hour and 10 minutes) for views over Loch Katrine and Loch Achray. Ben More (20 minutes) is a slightly more local spot, and a challenging climb if you really want to get the blood pumping. While you're here, you may fancy checking out some of the nearby castles. Dumbarton Castle (40 minutes) is a striking one set on a volcanic rock overlooking the sea. Inveraray Castle (50 minutes) on the shore of Loch Fyne is also spectacular, with huge gardens, a tearoom and castle room tours.
