  • Family-run holiday park at St Cyrus, just off the A92 in Angus
  • St Cyrus Beach 15 minutes’ walk; Dunnottar Castle 20 minutes’ drive
  • Well-maintained site; playground and shop within 10 minutes’ walk
Venturing north to drive the North Coast 500 or staying around to explore more of the Angus region? Either way, family-run (and friendly) Ecclesgreig Holiday Park makes a handy base for short stops or longer getaways. It’s set in the small coastal village of St Cyrus between Aberdeen and Dundee (both about 45 minutes’ drive), with easy access to the main north-south A92. If you’re staying around for a while, you’ll have time to find the sandy beaches just 15 minutes’ walk away, and follow the wildlife walks starting right from the pitches. You can also keep the kids occupied at the Lochside Playpark (10 minutes’ walk), where there’s a bowling green and astroturf pitch for ball games as well as climbing frames. There’s a small essentials shop in St Cyrus, 10 minutes' walk away. For bigger shopping expeditions, seaside Montrose,15 minutes’ drive away, has several large supermarkets as well as numerous cafés, pubs and restaurants. The amenities on site include toilets, a shower block, a launderette and drying room, as well as a handy covered terrace in case the weather isn’t playing ball.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and clean site, praised for its friendly staff and peaceful atmosphere. Facilities are generally good, with recent upgrades to toilet and shower blocks. Guests highlight the convenient location for beach access and local walks. The site is well-suited for families and dog owners, with dedicated play areas and dog-friendly amenities. While most visitors had a positive experience, some noted occasional noise and the need for levelling ramps on pitches.

The Hideout cabin (hot tub, pet friendly)

Liked Stunning Pod and location, there was a little dog park/pen directly across from Pod 2, one of the reasons for us as returning customers - this time bringing the dogs as it’s a very dog friendly, safe, secure enclosed balcony/pod, with the secure dog park/pen as an extra.

very clean and well maintained Pod with everything you need for your stay.

Hot tub is private, clean, warm & well maintained- attached to the pod and decking.

Lovely onsite forest walk which our girls loved, it takes you right to the coast.

convenient local Morrisons in the village, 5 mins drive/10-15 mins walk and the big tescos is only 15 mins drive away in town centre, which also has loads of shops and cafes/bars/old buildings/churches.

Highly recommend Arborarth boat yard and harbour, 20ish mins away, where you can get fresh fish, chips and the best fried tasty fried haggis!
Be sure to visit ‘Cels’ fishmonger for fresh and smoked fish, pies and pate’ that does NOT disappoint!

Staff onsite are really friendly, we had a minor heating issue after hours which was resolved very quickly, no complaints, and the engineer was amazing. All the locals & everyone in general on the site are warm and welcoming.

The pod has decent internet (it didn’t last time we stayed).

We haven’t yet booked again, but will be surely returning with our little Frenchies for a third time. We love it here even if it is a 5 hour drive from us in Liverpool.

Disliked Gas safety guy coming unannounced to us or the site.
Understand it’s necessary for guest safety but not when guests are there, however like the rest of the staff we met he was well mannered, polite and talkative .

Electric grass pitch

Liked The whole site was really good quality, facilities provided were excellent, clean and warm. In fact this is one of the best campsites we’ve stayed at over the years.

Disliked Only reason I didn’t score it a 10/10 was two very minor things. Firstly we stayed at the top end of the site adjacent to the field and there was some site flood lights there which came in in the evening, which was great. However they stayed on All night which out our tent up like it was daylight and made getting to sleep difficult, especially for my younger daughter (11). Would have been good if these were turned off at around 10pm maybe and then had some lower level soft light on fence posts or something to light the way to the toilet blocks.

Secondly there is obviously a dog kennels somewhere close by and the dogs barked All night long none stop until around 5/6am which was a little frustrating again for sleeping.

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked We had a hard standing pitch with grass surround. Separated from our neighbours by a 4ft fence at the end of which there was our very own water supply tap. The site was very clean with a new shower/toilet/wash block. Good play areas for kids. Walking trails for dogs. Recycle bins on site

Disliked The grass needed cut. No WiFi only mobile 4g. TV signal poor. Six toilets, four of which were housed in the shower cubicles. If it was busy shower would run hot or cold. Pitch was not level

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked Quiet. Facilities very good. Heated washrooms fantastic. Staff friendly and helpful.

Disliked Not many tourers there so the showers etc were under no pressure of numbers. At peak times it might be different.

Local attractions

St Cyrus National Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ walk) is a smashing spot for (hopefully) spotting skylarks and rare peregrine falcons, paddling in the North Sea and following trails through ever-shifting sand dunes. If you’re keen to see more birds, it’s a short hop to the Montrose Basin Visitor Centre (15 minutes’ drive) for the chance to spy pink-footed geese and kingfishers; there’s another sandy beach close by for summer swims. If the kids are not keen on getting in the sea, there’s an outdoor pool at Stonehaven (25 minutes), and if the weather turns bad, there’s a century’s worth of planes to be seen in hangars at Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre (10 minutes). Wait until the skies are clear before you visit legendary Dunnottar Castle (20 minutes), as its dramatic setting high on sea cliffs means it closes when it’s windy. An alternative is the 18th-century House of Dun (15 minutes), where you can learn about local life in the folk museum and tour ornate rooms and formal gardens. And Fettercairn Distillery (20 minutes) is open for tours and tasting, so you can pick up single malt as a Scottish souvenir.
