  • Peaceful Somerset farm site half an hour from Bristol and Bath
  • Plenty of space, with no restrictions on pitch size
  • Campfires and barbecues allowed; firewood for sale on site
Feel rural and regal in the village of Regil at quiet, well-maintained and very green Walnut Tree Farm, a small Somerset farm site roughly half an hour's drive from the cities of Bristol and Bath. There's a right royal amount of space here, and you can lay claim to as much of it as you wish, as there are no restrictions on pitch size here. Select your spot (by the stream, perhaps, or looking out over the neighbouring fields) and make yourselves at home with whatever outdoor furniture, paddling pools and barbecue kit you need for a comfy stay. Feel free to create a campfire corner too – there's firewood available to buy by the barrowload to help you build up a good blaze. Close to the pitches is a collection of excellent eco-friendly facilities, including clean compost toilets and hot showers. Quiet time (10pm - 8am) by night is requested across the site to ensure all guests can benefit from a good dose of rural peace to aid their dozing. It's also worth knowing the site is around four miles from Bristol Airport, and while it's not directly under a flight path, planes can be heard if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.

What customers say

This campsite is praised for its spacious pitches, beautiful rural location, and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors frequently highlight the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner, Mike. Facilities, including showers and compost toilets, are consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with special mention of eco-friendly touches. The site is considered ideal for relaxation and offers a good base for exploring nearby areas like Bristol and Bath. Some minor points raised include narrow access roads and occasional plane noise due to proximity to Bristol Airport, but these do not detract from the overall positive experience for most guests, many of whom express a desire to return.

Liked The site is lovely and can’t fault a thing. Mike was great and meet his brother Andrew as well. It’s all basic facilities but it gets the job done, a great place to relax and forget about the world for a while. Will be visiting again soon.

Shepherd's hut (adults only)

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional stay – highly recommend!
Everything about this glamping spot was amazing. The shepherd’s hut was clean, cozy, and perfectly stocked with running water and all necessary kitchen utensils. The compost toilets were a pleasant surprise—absolutely amazing, clean, organized, and not smelly at all! Showers were great, the view was phenomenal, and the owner was fantastic, friendly, and incredibly helpful. 10/10!
We will be back.

Non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Beautiful views all around and very quiet. Great facilities (compost loos, excellent showers, recycling) - i suppose that's fairly basic by some standards but we had all we neeed! Appreciared the additional touches too - flowers in the loo and firepits around the field! A warm welcome from the host - and he even took us in to the field to meet the cows the next morning!

Liked Lovely owner, great site so peaceful and calm. Only noticed plane noise a few times during my stay.
Lots of space between pitches and great to have fire pits set up. Facilities are clean and well maintained.
Mobile signal on EE was intermittent 1-2 bars, just enough to get my map for trips out and poor enough to force being switched off.
Fab place to stay, Already booked my next visit.

Local attractions

Looking over the Mendip Hills, it would seem that these limestone beauties would be an apt place to start your explorations from Walnut Tree Farm… it’s easy to see why this is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as prehistoric Cheddar Gorge, half an hour’s drive from the site, there’s a Victorian fort at Brean Down (about an hour’s drive west), and an Iron Age hill fort (about 40 minutes south) at Brent Knoll, to hook every kind of history buff. While you’re doing the historical rounds, go Gothic at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, a turreted and stone-carved mansion 10 miles north of Walnut Tree Farm. You'll be able to smell a good tale here – the house was once owned by one of the country’s wealthiest commoners, who managed to get himself rather stinking rich thanks to fertiliser. (It’ll all make scents if you pay a visit and nose out more.) Step onto the Monarch’s Way footpath to follow the escape route from the Battle of Worcester said to have been taken by the future Charles II back in 1651; running from Worcester to Bristol and down to Brighton, the path is clearly marked so ensures a royally safe experience (perhaps unlike that of Charles II). From the Monarch’s Way south of Bristol, you’ll wind up in Wells (15 miles from Walnut Tree Farm), where a cracking cathedral awaits, along with the 800-year-old Bishop’s Palace and its medieval features including a drawbridge and well-kept gardens for exploring.
