General

  • Small, cosy and family-friendly site near Warminster
  • Five minutes' drive from Longleat
  • Toilets, washing-up area and two family shower rooms

Have Wiltshire peace near Warminster at small, cosy and family-friendly Botany Camping. This is proper back to basics stuff with no electricity on site – but with modern and cleanly-kept amenities set among spectacular surroundings. The kids should be peaceable too, as the site is only five minutes by car from Longleat.

The basic and sustainable amenities here include composting toilets, a gents' urinal, a basin for hand washing, and two family shower rooms with sinks and hot water. There's also a washing-up sink with drainer and hot water: it's safe to say you'll like the views from here...

Although there's no electricity on site, there's a 4G signal for the EE network and 3G for O2 customers. Supplies, shops and restaurants can be sorted in Warminster a very short drive away.

Individual toilet cubicles with soap and towels. Pleasant and helpful owner. Large level pitches.

    Disliked:

Nothing to do with the campsite but the weather, it rained very heavily most of the time we were there.
You were not able to park your car next to the tent. On this occasion it worked well as the car would have got stuck in a muddy field. I think if the weather is nice it would be good to have the car next to your tent.

Stayed for two nights and found the facilities really good. Toilets could use better lighting but like the showers they were get clean and tidy. Left early because of weather prediction.
PS meant to mention the staff was friendly and helpful.

The location was nice and peaceful. Our campervan got sounds proof ,my fiancé didn't heard the noise at night time plus I'm deaf so it was nice and relaxing weekend. The open roof shower was amazing during hot weather. I saw the little birds flew over. I would definitely recommended to my family and friends. For day out English heritage members - not far to bratton camp. Only 25mins to Stonehenge.

This is a lovely site with clean facilities and plenty of space. There are enough toilets and showers and because the weather was good we made use of the open air shower (walls but no roof) most mornings - watching the sun come up. There was always plenty of hot water which made washing the dishes easy any time of day or night. The site is brilliantly situated for Longleat (only minutes away) and within easy reach of Stonehenge and Bath.

    Disliked:

First impressions, unfortunately count. As we were camping I had previously arranged to arrive early - which was all okayed by email. So was then surprised to be confronted (that's the word I would use) by a member of staff, within minutes of arriving, and told that there is no way that anyone would have agreed to us arriving this early (1.30pm). They relented once I pointed out that I had a copy of the email on my phone and that we were camping and not glamping. But by then the damage had been done.

We were also unaware - and I have since gone back and looked at the website and can't find anything mentioned (even in the terms and conditions) - that you were not allowed to drive cars on to the camping fields - even to unload. Still unaware of this we drove onto the site and started to unload only to be confronted separately by three members of staff - only the last of who apologised that we had not been made aware of the rules and pointed out that there were wheel barrows to help with the transfer of luggage from the carpark to the camping field. I appreciate the reason for the rules but don't appreciate rudeness when I am unaware of the rules.

An additional field is used for camping in August - presumably, this is where we were camping - but would it be possible to fit a cold water tap at the edge of this field?

Although a lovely site in a great location we won't be back - first impressions count! Also as a family that camps for a week at a time we like to be able to unload and load our car much nearer to our pitch.

Devizes, Bradford on Avon, the Kennet and Avon Canal and fishing at Shearwater Lake are all in the area too; other clean good days out are at Bath, also 30 minutes away, and at Glastonbury, Bristol, Wells and the Somerset Levels, all within 45 minutes' drive.
