The Crown Inn: The campsite

General

  • Family-friendly site in the grounds of a traditional country pub
  • Stonehenge, Longleat safaris, Westbury White Horse within 45 minutes
  • Large beer garden serving good pub food

Flutter over for friendly stays at The Crown Inn, a site welcoming kids and adults in the grounds of a traditional country pub. It's 10 minutes’ drive from the Wiltshire market town of Devizes with views of the Saint Mary of the Virgin church spire from its green grounds.

In the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this dog-friendly place is well located for scenic hikes and rambles among historical sites and hilly countryside: within five minutes, join the 13-mile Wansdyke Path towards Marlborough or follow the long-distance track along the Kennet and Avon Canal that connects Bristol and Reading.

On wanders hereabouts, keep eyes to the hillsides… some within an easy trot are home to ancient white horses – chalk horses, that is. The White Horses of Devizes and Alton Barnes are roughly 10 minutes away and the famed Westbury White Horse is within 35 minutes.

Effort-free days on site are very much in order too – fill up on local eats in the pub then nurse a drink in the beer garden while the kids play.

A shower/toilet block is open at the site 24/7 and there are also drinking water facilities.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Food is served Monday to Saturday 12pm - 9pm and Sunday 12pm - 5pm

Breakfast is served daily 9am - 11am but must be pre-ordered by 8pm the previous evening.

The owner of the pub is lovely. It was fairly quite especially after 10pm. You could hear the birds sing every morning which was very nice. Very pretty environment. Nice to do the long trails. A farm nearby where the farmer let children hold his lambs. Their milk, sausages, eggs were very nice.(I mean the farmers).
There is only grass everywhere. Toilet has number lock... (don't leave Toilet last minute.com as you might struggle by the time you enter your code 😉.

    Disliked:

Shower head was sparying everywhere. I wish the food prices were lower at the pub. It is okay if there are only 2 people eating but too high when you have a family, but isn't it everywhere?!
Arny helicopters were flying nearly every night.

The site was flat & clean. It was so peaceful, there was no noise except for the birds oh & the campervan next to our tent where they were shouting & screaming at each other for a couple of nights but hey ho it didn’t spoil our long weekend! The pub is lovely & food is delicious. We are definitely going to be staying there again for sure.

The field was nice and spacious, allowed camp fires off the ground, relaxing environment.

    Disliked:

The showers, too high a spray on both, they spray over the door, if you are 7 foot tall it would be ok. Nothing to soak up the wet floor after showering, a mop in there would be perfect. The pub, lucky to have anything you wanted from the menu, drinks were running out, immature staff.

Travelling a touch further – around 10 minutes – will get you to the market town of Devizes with its castle, museum and brewery plus a whole host of shops and restaurants; Bowood House and Gardens, on the other hand, is 20 minutes’ drive for wanders around a Grade I listed Georgian country house and its 100 acres of pretty parkland.

Schedule in some time to linger for longer at Lacock, a well-preserved village run by the National Trust that’s barely changed since the 19th century – so little so that it’s appeared in Downton Abbey.
