Mendip Ski Camp: Camping at Mendip Ski Camp

General

  • Well-maintained and peaceful campsite next to Mendip Activity Centre
  • A mile from Sandford village centre; Cheddar Gorge 15 minutes' drive
  • Family-friendly site in an area of outstanding natural beauty

Pitch by the piste at Mendip Ski Camp, a peaceful Somerset sight next to Mendip Activity Centre in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

This spacious and friendly spot welcomes families, small groups and well-behaved dogs for laidback holidays on a green and grassy field. The site is easily accessible but secluded, with a wide range of adventurous activities and local amenities within a short walk. Facilities here include a portable cabin with hot showers and toilets. As well as the dry ski slope next door, the activity centre organises watersports, archery, frisbee golf and abseiling (book in advance via the centre's website), while a mile away in Sandford village centre you have access to a pub, a kids' playground, footpaths and Thatchers Cider Farm.

This is a scenic location with nearby woodlands and plenty of wildlife to be spotted, including deer, foxes and buzzards. Nearby walks of note include the Strawberry Line, the Mendip Way and strolls around Cheddar Gorge, while for coastal capers Weston-super-Mare and the Somerset coast are half an hour away by road.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

What a fab campsite! Brand new, immaculate facilities, wonderful hot showers, the friendliest owners ever, and really well situated for Cheddar and surrounding attractions. Highly recommended. As it gets busier in the summer, more loos/showers/washing up stations may be needed, but it wasn't a problem when we were there.

The owners were friendly and welcoming and made themselves present around the campsite. We liked that they were laid back with not too many rules. Families were actively encouraged to have fun. Music and children were playing so perfect for us! One family set up a slip and slide down the middle of the site and no body minded. The toilets and showers are basic but brand new and kept clean. Showers had a constant hot water supply and were very pleasant. The location is brilliant - Weston is a short drive and there were a few shops and pubs locally. Also next to the activity centre.

    Disliked:

Maybe more showers and toilets needed, but it was a very busy bank holiday weekend when we went. I personally prefer the showers and toilets to be in one cubicle. In the morning we had to queue for the toilet and then start again at the back of the queue for the shower. We paid £55 for a night which was a little steep for non electric but we booked last minute and were just happy to find somewhere with space available!
