General

  • Small, flat touring park in Banwell at the foot of the Mendip Hills
  • Two miles from the M5 and five from Weston-Super-Mare
  • Plenty of open space, spectacular views, barbecue area

As the owners of Myrtle Farm Holidays rightly point out, its setting at the foot of Somerset's Mendip Hills means there's something here for all sorts.

Weston-super-Mare is only five miles away, hilly hikes are on the doorstep, and within a quick drive you'll be at famed Somerset and Wiltshire spots like Cheddar Gorge, Bristol and Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat and anciently idiosyncratic Glastonbury. Its semi-rural location a mile from the village of Banwell has it easily accessible too: Junction 21 of the M5 and Worle train station are both two miles away and Bristol airport within 11 miles.

Under new ownership since 2016, Myrtle Farm is a family-run, small and level touring park, welcoming families and adults, and facing south with excellent views. It's well maintained and spacious with plenty of room for kids to run around.

Facilities include shower and toilet blocks, spotlessly kept and supplied with soap, shower gel and shampoo. Wifi isn't available on the pitches, but a wifi hotspot can be accessed by the amenities.

Village pubs, shops, restaurants, takeaways, a post office and a castle (cream teas in the summer, anyone?) are all a mile away at the farm's local village of Banwell.

Very quiet place as being end of season, ideal for a chilled out and relaxing atmosphere. Very well kept, site clean, facilities and well tended. Easy access to site and pitches level. Owner kept to themselves and didn’t bother you once you were greeted onto site, which I found very pleasant.

    Disliked:

Found showers very small and not isolated from main toilets, which made it difficult to have privacy for drying and changing and security of possessions.
Whilst dogs were welcome and charged for, no facilities were provided for them.
I.e. area to run off lead as there were no immediate walks as this site has two busy roads surrounding the area.
Also bring a long main hook up lead as some pitches have a distance between hook ups

Local attractions

The Myrtle Farm Holidays setting at the foot of the Mendip Hills has it perfectly placed for outdoorsy days, with a vast pick of walks, cycle routes, fishing and birdwatching within easy distance.

By car, Cheddar village and the famed and fab Cheddar Gorge are very close by, as is the teeny city of Wells with its cathedral and independent shops. The National Trust-managed Victorian Gothic house of Tyntesfield is ten miles away.

Another cracking option is Glastonbury, with its independent shops and cafés, museums, Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor. The golden sandy beaches, seaside shops and wide range of restaurants and bars at Weston-Super-Mare, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea are all within a short drive.

You'll also be within easy driving distance of the cities of Bristol and Bath and their shopping, theatres, cinemas, museums, bars and restaurants. Travel a little further to get to Wiltshire, where must-sees include Stonehenge and Longleat.
