General

  • Small, friendly glampsite beside a bluebell wood in the Mendip Hills
  • On the edge of a working farm, a 10-minute drive to Chew Magna’s lake
  • A 20-minute drive from Cheddar Gorge and the cathedral city of Wells

Stays in scenic Somerset are particularly splendid when they’re at Nettwood Country Breaks, a friendly glampsite in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with topnotch views across the Chew valley and its lovely lake.

Spectacular scenery is also visible from the accommodation at this park a 20-minute drive from the small city of Wells, set as they are in thoughtful positions on the edge of the owners' working farm and next to a bluebell field. Units are placed close enough for families who want to be together, yet are spaced out enough to ensure a bit of privacy.

For those with eagle eyes, wildlife is all around the spacious grounds as well – listen to birdsong from your private decking and look out for the deer that regularly roam the woods edging the site. While you’re ambling on these tree-lined paths, pick up fallen twigs for the campfire and barbecue (blazes are allowed at this park) or just work up an appetite for supper at one of the two pubs serving food in the local village, which also has a shop.

Legs need more stretching? Step out onto one of the local footpaths for rural wanders or test your fitness on the nearby cycle routes. Alternatively, get in the car and drive over to the famed village of Cheddar, 20 minutes away, for cave tours, climbing and clifftop hikes at the gorge (a must after indulging in all the cheese sold in the shops…) Two fishing lakes and a couple of local golf courses are also a short drive away.

Extra showers and toilets were added to the site's clean and well-kept amenities in 2018.

Cooking equipment in the Safari Tent was in poor condition.

From the manager...

Hi Mr Beardsworth,

So sorry you were disappointed with your stay here and found the accommodation, equipment and facilities not up to your standard.
The glamping unit is rustic, has no oven but 4 gas hobs, outdoor fire pit and bbq to cook on so equipment can get a bit worn on the bottoms but are in good working order.

i'm also really sorry you were not happy with the cleanliness as our team are busy with disinfecting and bringing all cutlery, crockery etc up to the farm to put through the dish washer in these times. We are taking much longer to carry out cleaning of any touch point areas and all furniture.

The Safari tent may have been a bit sparse as we have to be a bit careful of anything left in the unit if it can't be cleaned but it's not nice to think you were disappointed as we do our best to still make our units look inviting and cosy and of course clean.

I can understand why you gave us a low rating for activities if you have older children as our site is not really activity based but offers mainly play areas, den building and interest in the animals we keep here but there are plenty of activities in Cheddar/ Mendips and the surrounding areas to explore.

On a good note I'm glad you enjoyed the camp site location and hope you enjoy the rest of the summer,
Debbie

Friendly and helpful owners. Pod is lovely and secluded next to woods. Best layout to a pod we have ever stayed at. We had a lovely stay and will visit again. Showers excellent quality and clean. The showers are the best we have had on a campsite. Great view towards the lake in the distance and lovely small woods on site as well as the nearby forestry commission wooded walk.

Thank you Natasha, we are really pleased liked the pod and our facilities.

Local attractions

For kid-friendly caverns, a play area, crazy golf and a lively circus, Wookey Hole (15 minutes’ drive) is the place to go; if you’re travelling sans small fry, the laidback city of Wells (just over 20 minutes) has grownup pursuits sorted with its cathedral, twice-weekly traditional market and great pubs.

For outdoor activities, Cheddar Reservoir is a half-hour drive away – head here to fish and boat, or aim for Chew Valley Lake (just over 10 minutes) if you’d rather birdwatch from the banks instead of getting out on the water.

A touch further on from here are the Stanton Drew Circles and Cove (20 minutes’ drive); after checking out one of the biggest Neolithic monuments ever constructed, move onwards towards Bath (50 minutes) to admire the Georgian architecture and Roman-era hot springs.
