  • Well-maintained over-50's park with clubhouse
  • Five minutes' drive from Burnham-on-Sea; easy access to the south west
  • Bar/clubhouse with weekend entertainment
A holiday with like-minded people is what's on offer at Edithmead Leisure & Park Homes, a smartly-kept site near the Somerset coast and exclusively for guests over 50. The park was set up to provide a peaceful vibe to those prefer the laidback quiet of a more grownup atmosphere, and as an excellent setting for Somerset sightseeing as it’s near Junction 22 of the M5. it’s only five minutes’ drive to the coast at Burnham-on-Sea from here, and within easy reach of Wells, Bristol, Cheddar Gorge and the Somerset Levels. (It’s well set up for your best friend too: Edithmead is dog friendly and has a dog-walking field at the back of the park.) Among the well-kept amenities are centrally heated toilet blocks with a washing-up area and baby changing, and a launderette with washing, drying and ironing facilities; the park is also suitable for wheelchair and mobility scooter users as it’s on flat land and all walkways are tarmacked. Everything is safe and secure on site: a warden lives in and there’s 24-hour CCTV as well as a licence plate recognition system. All that said, the Edithmead highlight is its the Windmill Bar & Bistro, open from Wednesdays to Sundays for morning coffee, lunch and dinner, Sunday carvery and Saturday night entertainment, and with a pool table and a terrace bar.

Local attractions

Edithmead's easy access to the M5 is in prime position for getting out and about around Somerset and further afield in the south west, whether you fancy days of city, coast or countryside, or staying close to base with a hike around the Somerset Levels. Burnham-on-Sea is the nearest seaside resort at five minutes' drive (or about 15 by bike via Stoddens Lane); beach-based adventurers are also within easy reach of Brean (15 minutes), Weston-super-Mare (20 minutes) and, to the south, the Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve and Steart. Coastal hikers can set off along the West Somerset Coast Path and the River Parrett Trail at this last, for a journey along the 58-mile trail east to Minehead, or south for 50 miles through Somerset to the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Day trip options include spectacular Cheddar Gorge (20 minutes), the tor and independent shops of Glastonbury (30 minutes), the tiny cathedral city of Wells (35 minutes and the city of Bristol (45 minutes). Taunton is half an hour away.
