What customers say
This "almost wild" camping site offers stunning views and a peaceful, back-to-basics experience. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful owner, Tim, the availability of fire pits, and the opportunity to buy local produce. While facilities are described as basic but clean, some reviewers noted issues with un-mowed pitches and the kitchen area, which the manager has addressed. The bumpy access road is mentioned, along with the car-free policy on fields.

From the manager: We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. i know you only booked last minute for one night but we do like to make every stay enjoyable. You did book what is heavily advertised as an "Almost Wild Camping" pitch The pitches are not mowed at this time of year(I suspect you're not familiar with "no mow May") to encourage a diversity of plant and insect life. On the other hand the kitchen sink area I think you are referring to was checked shortly before you arrived in the evening. Given you left early in the morning it was checked and cleaned shortly after you left. As you know we encourage campers to keep this area clean , but we will endeavour to ensure the area is checked late evening as well. If you would like a refund do not hesitate to contact us asap or we can offer you free camping on a return visit. Thank you for your honest and frank review.

Excellent campsite with an exceptional host
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked The campsite is in a stunning location looking over a valley, and with a limited number of pitches, makes it a very peaceful stay. Tim was the most amazing host, and was always ready to help out if needed. The facilities were great- with lovely clean toilet and shower blocks and a great washing up area. the campsite has great facilities but also is in a great location to go and explore the area- with some excellent pubs close by. Just loved it.

Bell tent
Liked We arrived a bit early but was welcomed warmly non the less. The host was very kind and helpful. Great views and walks. We got cold in the tent just our mistake for underestimating that nights can get cold. We were able to light a camp fire which was a treat to show our little 4yr old how to build and light a fire. The host showed him the chickens and had fresh egg for breakfast which we cooked on gas stove supplied and quality local produce, the tomatoes we had were amazing! Our only regret was not being able to stay a little longer. Thank you for our stay on your beautiful land.

Tranquil site with a great location, view, owner and ethos
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked We had a fantastic time at the Batch Campsite! The view from our pitch was incredible and the site is in a great spot to explore the mendips.
We managed to go on some great walking and caving trips straight from the site - I would highly recommend the walk up to beacon batch with a stop to explore Read's Cavern. Tim and his dog were friendly and very very helpful. When I booked our stay there weren't any showers advertised, so when we arrived and there was a brand new shower block that was a great surprise. You're also allowed to have a campfire right by your pitch, something I've not experienced at many other campsites.
Unique to the Batch Campsite, the owner here is really passionate about caring for the environment and encourages guests to eat local food with minimal waste. This wasn't shoved in your face at all but gently provided a great reminder to think about how we do day to day life!
Disliked The recycling bins could have been labelled more clearly, and some of the firewood we bought was quite mossy and made a lot of smoke.
