  • Wells, Glastonbury and Cheddar Gorge within a 40-minute drive
  • Hot tub, kingsize bed, heating and linens included
Getting to Croft Atelier has a bit of a magical vibe to it – you’ll enter the village of North Newton via the ‘fairy glades’, follow the stream through the village and then make your way up a grassy track to find your new little home tucked away in the orchard. And what awaits in this splendid Somerset location is just as magical, as you’ll be staying in a cute little timber lodge in a secluded spot among the apple trees. It’s a very private spot – and peaceful too, as this is an adults-only site. In fact, as there’s just the one cabin here you won’t have to share the space with anyone at all other than the dragonflies, birds and other wildlife that can usually be spotted around the place. The cabin has been very thoughtfully designed with pretty much everything you might need for a comfortable couple’s getaway. Inside it’s got fully fitted carpet, a kingsize bed, a lovely log burner-style heater and lots of soft furnishings to keep everything cosy. Bed linen, blankets, fluffy towels and robes are all provided to make things nice and simple. Meanwhile, outside the cabin there’s a large wraparound deck with an overhanging porch (for shade in the warmer months and shelter at cooler times) and an outdoor table with fairy lights for a bit of atmosphere. It’s just the spot for a couple of drinks or dinner with your other half – a kitchenette is inside (with cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster) to help sort either option. The deck is also home to what’s surely the real highlight – your own private hot tub, where you can bubble away in peace, looking up into the sky to see if you can spot a shooting star…

Croft cabin

Liked: Loved how secluded and quiet it was - a real 'get away from it all' kind of place but a great base to visit some seaside towns like Burnham on Sea and Weston Super Mare. Hot tub was a fabulous addition to unwind with a glass of wine and the bed was so comfy. The host, Helen, emailed us with all the info we needed as not the easiest place to find. Will definitely be recommending to friends.

Croft cabin

Liked: The cabin is in a lovely spot and has everything you need- the bed is very comfortable and we loved the robes and blankets provided. The hot tub was fabulous.

Disliked: We felt a little disappointed that the log burner mentioned is actually an electric fire- think perhaps the description needs to make this clear. Also, it needs to clearly say no fires outside allowed as it is also a bit misleading- an open fire is always on our must have list for a cosey stay so we were a bit sad about this

From the manager: In the rules section of the listing it is made clear that campfires are not permitted on site. I did also ensure this was explained prior to arrival l, when the client messaged me about having a fire in the orchard. The photos for the our listing show the lovely log burner style heater, with no chimney flue. We have addressed the wording in the description to emphasise this feature. Government guidance for campsites around fires has changed since the last two extremely hot summers. Many sites are now following that guidance in order to protect the environment and limit the risk of wild fires during recent droughts. We encourage clients to read our listing fully and refer to the photos for an accurate impression of Croft Cabin.

Local attractions

This might be a very secluded little cabin but it’s actually surprisingly well connected, as it’s only about five minutes’ stroll from the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal (a lovely place for a walk on the towpath) and about 15 minutes’ drive from Bridgwater or the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While you’re in the area, you may also like to have a go on the water yourselves from the Somerset Boat Centre (five minutes’ drive), catch a match at Somerset County Cricket Club (15 minutes) or head north to Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole (40 minutes). Urban wanderings might take you to the likes of Taunton (15 minutes), Glastonbury (35 minutes) or Wells (45 minutes), each of which has its own character. If it’s shopping bargains you’re after, maybe a trip to Clarks Village (half an hour) should be on the cards as well.
