  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Communal firepit; barbecue hut, sauna and hot tub all extra
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, with views over the city yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4. So what’s included with your stay? Modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs), just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. Luxurious amenities that come with an extra charge include firepits for personal use, a barbecue hut, sauna and hot tub. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs.

What customers say

This campsite is highly praised for its excellent location, directly opposite the Park and Ride for easy access to Bath. Reviewers frequently mention the clean facilities, friendly staff, and spacious, level pitches. While some noted issues with mud in wet weather and a lack of hot water in washing-up areas, management has indicated these are being addressed. The secure entry system is also a positive point. Despite some minor drawbacks, many guests express a desire to return.

Non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked For winter time it was fine for what we needed! Good spaced pitches and in such a great location!

Campsite staff (John & Johns dad) were just the loveliest❤️

Disliked I really don’t like complaining but i’d say the cleanliness of the toilet, as an avid outdoor goer, i’m aware toilets aren’t going to be the cleanest, but I think I just expected this one to be a bit cleaner than it was!

Non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Location to the park and ride for Bath. Also the staff were really friendly.

Disliked The facilities were very poor (only 1 portable loo/shower for the overflow area) and therefore it was very expensive, particularly as there was not hook up either.

From the manager: Hi Paul
Thank ypu for your feedback.
The price was peak rate as it was the Christmas Market time, although I will be revising the price next year.
Sunday - Thursday will be half price.

There was other toilets and showers in the field at the campsite which you could of used, I just placed one at the overflow area to make it easier for everyone at the overflow.
Eventually I will install more services there, a single toilet block costs around £4000 so I could not afford to invest more especially at Christmas and on the 1st year of trading.

No Ehu was made clear upon booking.

Best regards
John

Non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Near to Lansdown Park and Ride for Bath

Disliked Not mentioned that the overflow gravel motorhome area is more like 10 minutes from Park & Ride for elderly walkers, rather than the 2-3 minutes for the motorhome area near the gate.
Having a combined shower, wash basin and toilet unit at the overflow gravel area means that there is less time when the toilet is accessible. A separate toilet would help.

From the manager: I am sorry you had to walk a bit further to reach the park and ride opposite us. Atleast it was all tarmac driveway.
I think if the weather was better, it would not of been so bad?
The main campsite was fully booked by the time you booked, so there was no other option but to be in the overflow area.

Its advisable to book much further in advance for the Christmas Market period, and place a note or contact us prior to booking, stating any special requests in the future especially if you have a dissability.
The overflow area was only completed this year, just for the Christmas market, we will aim to add more additional units when we can afford to do so.
Thank you for your review

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
