  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly location with personal firepits available to hire
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, making it one one of the closest sites to the city centre yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4, with easy access from the A46 and A420, just outside Bath's Clean Air Zone. So what’s included with your stay? This off-grid site on a working farm has modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs) – just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. If you'd rather have a firepit to yourself, personal firepits can be hired for an additional fee. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs, and within easy reach of walks on the Cotswold Way and around Beckford's Tower.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really liked how laid back and spacious it was. The pizza was brilliant and really nice man making them. Also there was a party or something with live music nearby and I really enjoyed the background music.

Disliked My only dislike it just how far the toilets were from the pitch but this is only minor.

Liked Good, clean facilities and the pitch was level and mown.
John gave us clear and timely directions for the site and responded promptly and helpfully to our query. Great spot for visiting Bath with the park and ride over the road. There was traffic on the road but it was background noise and didn’t impede our sleep

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked It was on an old farm, so saw the cows in the next field. Was nice and quite, showers and loos all good nice to have a loo with shower and sink in together. John was very helpful and on the end of the phone for any problems. Its only his second season of the campsite, doing a good job. Bath by bus (park and ride) just across the road and not far for other national trust houses/gardens. We came for the Badminton flower show, as campsite not far away. Pub 10mins walk. Lovely sunsets.
If you want a wild camping feel with amenities then this is great!

Disliked The loos are neutral gender, some may like there privacy

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
