  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly location with personal firepits available to hire
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, making it one one of the closest sites to the city centre yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4, with easy access from the A46 and A420, just outside Bath's Clean Air Zone. So what’s included with your stay? This off-grid site on a working farm has modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs) – just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. If you'd rather have a firepit to yourself, personal firepits can be hired for an additional fee. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs, and within easy reach of walks on the Cotswold Way and around Beckford's Tower.

What customers say

Great location, right by the Park & Ride to Bath. Guests love friendly owner John, spacious sites, and clean facilities, especially the hot showers. Basic facilities and some road noise noted, but overall convenient and good value.

Primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Great location for Bath city and the park and ride but very poor toilet and shower facilities not enough for the amount of people on site and general sanitation bins not emptied regularly and shower toilet floors dirty

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Considering we had a full campsite that weekend and your the only one who complained. It went well.

They are cleaned every day, and checked by myself as I work and live at the campsite throughout the day.

Unfortunately there were a few messy guests who can spoil it for everyone. Which when I checked i sorted it.

A clean bathroom can only stay clean when everyone cleans after themselves. Otherwise it will get messy, and when the cleaner comes it will be cleaned again.

We can't clean 24/7 . ..But my number is in the toilets, and any issues you could of contacted and reported it to me. No one reported any issues of mess at the bathrooms.

There was always toilet roll and hand towels stocked and mops are provided in every bathroom.

The bins were emptied daily I know as I done it.
You are probably just referring to the paper towl Bins which can look full , but its just paper towels, you will find if pushed down they didnt even half fill the bin, it just looked full and over flowing where people dont properly place their towel into the bin.

Please see the previous reviews at this date and on Google reviews. All 10/10 and 5/5. That speaks for itself.

Regards
John.

From the manager: Thank you for the review
If you read the email for access , you would of found there was a washing up area. Its a field with a few structures inside..perhaps check them all next time if you are not going to read the email?
The washing up block is at the top of the small field, the same field as the toilets , its grey and has big windows. - As seen in our gallery, and mentioned in past reviews.
If you couldnt find it in a empty field then you could of called myself as every one gets my number.
- Washing hands with cold water in the summer is hardly a problem.

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
