  • Peaceful Somerset escape at a family farm on the outskirts of Bath
  • Bath Racecourse five minutes’ drive and Bath Abbey 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly location with personal firepits available to hire
Looking for a peaceful spot that’s handy for the historic sights of Bath? Off-grid Lansdown Campsite is set on a family farm in stunning countryside atop Lansdown Hill, with views over the city yet far enough away to be unaffected by its buzz. It’s also a clever choice if you’re weekending from London or Wales, as the site is only 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M4. So what’s included with your stay? Modern showers and a washing-up area, drinking water and a communal firepit (free to use with purchase of a bag of logs), just the job for cosying up around after days of exploration in Bath and Somerset. If you'd rather have a firepit to yourself, personal firepits can be hired for an additional fee. Dogs are more than welcome, and they can have a stroll around the farm fields (please keep them on a lead). The site is right opposite Lansdown Park and Ride (catch Service 31 right into Bath city centre; it runs every 15 minutes), so you can abandon the car for the duration of your stay. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from Bath Racecourse and a couple of foodie pubs.

What customers say

Great spot near Bath's Park and Ride. Reviewers love the clean washrooms, helpful staff, and spacious, level sites. While some found it muddy when wet and noted cool dishwashing water, management's working on it. Secure entry is a plus. Many hope to return!

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Spacious pitches, easy to get into the campsite. It is right by the Lansdown Park and Ride. Two pubs in walking distance.

Disliked There are limited shower and toilet facilities. The campsite was less than half full when we were there, so we did manage to get a shower without queuing, but I think in the summer when the site is full the showers and toilets would be overwhelmed.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
We have 2 more showers which were locked at the time as we were only half full, and im sure you noticed the digger and some pipes at the entrance, we are installing a new water main to improve the flow for better showers.

John

Liked Great for visiting Bath. Right opposite the park and ride which is a big bonus compared to parking charges in Bath, nice clean facilities and ample space to pitch.

Primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Great location for a short stop over if visiting Bath - basic facilities but do the job.

Disliked Hard pitches were alongside farm track - would have preferred them to be in a field.

Local attractions

First stop Bath? Take a bus into the historic city centre (15 minutes on the bus) to visit the ancient Roman baths complex, the neighbouring abbey and the Jane Austen Centre. If you require a bit of pampering, book saunas and massages at Thermae Bath Spa, which has cracking views of the abbey from its rooftop pool. When you fancy a stroll from your pitch, head for Beckford’s Tower and Museum (10 minutes’ walk), a neoclassical folly with spectacular views over Bath from the top of the tower. You can be on the long-distance Cotswold Way within 10 minutes’ drive, and there are also a couple of golf courses around 15 minutes by car away. When you have young kids who need entertaining, your best bet is Avon Valley Adventure Park (20 minutes’ drive), a petting farm with a soft-play centre. There are brightly painted barges to see on walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal from cute Bradford-on-Avon (25 minutes), and an aqueduct built by engineer John Rennie in 1801 to check out at Avoncliff (35 minutes), where you and the family can enjoy lunch in a historic canal-side pub.
