Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: We decided to book a last minute stay at your campsite. We didn’t know what to expect as it only cost us £21 for the night but when we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly guy who gave us all the information we needed to know and more! We were surprised to find there would be a live band and a pop up bbq which we thoroughly enjoyed. The walks across the hilltop were beautiful and the view of Weymouth bay was fantastic! The facilities available were clean and always being checked by staff who were there. We are hoping to return again soon.

Liked: Great views. Live music. Warm showers. Clean composting toilets. If you like walks you can get into a number of trails from the site. It didn't feel busy (we went during the half term).

Disliked: Can't be helped by the site, but for the hilltop views, you get the hilltop wind!

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Really nice South African brai truck, live music every Saturday and the band was actually pretty good, friendly staff, good vibes all round. Fantastic view of Portland and Weymouth when you wake up. Showers were very clean, urinals a plus so no queues for the toilets. 30 minute drive to go climbing in Portland. Also a nice bustling pub with pretty good food just a 15 minute walk away.

Disliked: The non-quiet areas are on a hill which is quite steep in some places. I was fine, but my colleague with an inferior tent got a bit damp during a torrential downpour between 10pm and 3am.

Liked: The campsite was laid out very nicely with reception towards the entrance. A lot of space and so large gaps between tents. No trees means no birds singing at 0500!!! It was windy as you might expect but nothing to worry about. The toilets were composting and took a little time getting use to but presented no problem; very clean. We had live music both Saturday and Sunday which was nice to see. At night time it was very, very quiet with everyone behaving themselves very well. It took us about 10 minutes to drive down to Weymouth beach. I've been to many campsites and this was the best so far, especially in and around Weymouth. We plan to use this as our future base for visits to the area.

Disliked: Nothing really. The ground was hard as described in the literature but this was useful as it was a little windy. My wife didn't like the toilets but there again she doesn't really like any toilets! Disliked having my teenage daughter with us.

Local attractions

Strolls along the South Dorset Ridgeway and the South West Coast Path are to be had straight from this site, so make sure to pack the walking boots. Look out for the Osmington White Horse, a hillside figure carved into limestone, while you wander. For beach days, the dog-friendly Overcombe (a five-minute drive) and Ringstead bay (15 minutes) are some of your closest stretches of seaside, while Weymouth is also close by (10 minutes) for visits to the SEA LIFE Centre, Nothe Fort and boat trips from the harbour. Thrill-seeking sorts can also jetski here, plus there’s kayaking for a gentler time on the water. Dawdle to Dorchester (10 minutes) for historical sightseeing in an old market town that’s home to the Maiden Castle hillfort and Roman Town House remains, or amble to Abbotsbury (20 minutes) for access to an abbey, castle and some fab fossil foraging at Chesil beach. Other Jurassic Coast destinations in the area include the horseshoe-shaped Lulworth Cove and the arched rock formation of Durdle Door (both 25 minutes). If animal antics are what you’re after, you can peer at the protected primates in the Monkey World – Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes).
