  • Dog-friendly site on a farm surrounded by the Dorset countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast; 45 minutes to Chesil Beach
  • Pubs, farmers market within easy reach; fishing and kayaking nearby
If you’re looking for no-frills camping surrounded by clucking hens and the occasional deer trotting past your tent, then Monkey Chop Farm might be the site for you. You’ll join the ranks of ducks, hens, and sheep to set up camp in the serenity of the Dorset countryside. Within five minutes’ drive of the villages of Mosterton and Broadswindsor, this dog-friendly site is also 20 minutes from the natural adventure grounds of the cove-carved Jurassic Coast, with endless ambling coastal walks. This site is well-situated for anyone who can’t sit still - avid hikers will have a tough time deciding between woodland aeries, riverside tracks, and the local myriad of ancient bridleways. Within 30 minutes’ reach of Iron Age forts and fossil-rich shingle beaches, there are a plethora of activities to keep everyone on their toes, from canoeing and kayaking to wild fishing. When you set up camp here, you’ll be joining a working farm, so the internet isn’t needed, as kids will be entertained by the frolicking cows, sheep, hens and ducks. But despite its peaceful surrounds, there’s a farmers' market, pubs, and village shops within five minutes of the site, for when the day demands a cool refreshment. If you have a furry friend who wants a slice of the delectable Dorset countryside, dogs are welcome on the site, as long as they're on their best behaviour and a lead at all times.

Local attractions

You can hunt for fossils on the Jurassic Coast, where there’s an almost endless list of coves and beaches within a 30-minute drive of the site, including Charmouth, Seatown, and Eype. Not all of the beaches are swimming-friendly, but there’s no shortage of coastal pubs with jaw-dropping views and a selection of good grub and ales. At Chesil Beach (45 minutes), you can set up your fishing rod, tuck into a picnic, and wait for your catch. Closer to the site, guests will need to ready their hiking boots for Lewesden Hill (10 minutes) and Pilsdon Penn (10 minutes) or prepare to seek out rare species at the nature reserve on Powerstock Common (20 minutes). Elsewhere, the arts-centric market town of Beaminster vies for attention against the fishing trips, kayaking and canoeing of West Bay (25 minutes). Meanwhile, the romantic seaside scenes of Lyme Regis (30 minutes) compete with the woodland workshops of Hooke Park (15 minutes), for the nimble-fingered. For something a little more stately, take a step back in time in the Jacobean manor house of Mapperton House and Gardens (15 minutes) or the former monastery at Forde Abbey House and Gardens (15 minutes).
