General

  • Family-friendly park a mile from the market town of Wimborne
  • Monkey World, Peppa Pig World and the Jurassic Coast within 45 minutes
  • Heated outdoor pool, playground, BMX track and café on site

Best be waving bye-bye to the boss for as long a while as poss if you’re wending your way to Wilksworth Caravan Park… there’s a rather lengthy list of stuff to do in the vicinity of this family-friendly spot a mile from Wimborne.

Even before you’ve even ventured beyond the park’s boundaries there’s much to fill an hour or few with: an outdoor pool with splash pool for the small sorts, a football field, a BMX track, table tennis, a playground and the tiddler-friendly Tiny Town playhouse village. Site passes also entitle you to scoot over to a sister park 20 minutes away to swim in their indoor pool, work out at the well-equipped gym and join in with a huge range of daytime activities and evening ents.

And you’ll no doubt be wanting to leave plenty of time for getting out and about too: beaches, forest walks, pony rides, museums and boat trips are all within easy reach… and it’s just possible the kids may draw your attention to the proximity of Monkey World and/or Peppa Pig World too.

In the interests of maxing out your available leisure hours, the basics are well-supplied on site: bathrooms have all mod cons (underfloor heating, free hairdryers and accessible facilities among them) and there’s a washing-up area and wifi connection. Eats can be picked up at the shop or café, or it’s a doddle to waddle off to the local pub (a traditional thatched number 15 minutes’ walk away).

Site is absolutely lovely, myself and husband arrived after reception closed, which was not an issue, our pitch details were left for us. One of the lovely wardens was around to help.
Woke up the next morning and what a delightful park. It is exceptionally clean and lots for children of all ages, bmx park, volleyball net, outdoor pool ( when weather is hotter), large play area and a cute tiny town.
The shower facilities are exceptional, under floor heating, the showers are so warm and clean. We only stayed for a couple of nights but are definitely coming back for a week next year

Excellent location and very good facilities. So much to do and see all around it is the perfect base for a family holiday. Surprised at how good the shared facilities were. Shower/toilet block was always very clean, and warm for those late night loo dashes! Plenty of space bearing mind site was pretty full for the first part of our stay it never felt that way. Swimming pool was a great bonus. A shame it wasn't open earlier as would be great to have been able to have a swim before going out for the day rather than feeling we had to rush back to get back before it closed. Last week of summer hols but still busy so not opening until midday seems odd (presume restricted by staffing numbers). Good to see 2 lifeguards on duty at all times though. Excellent kids playground, big field with football pitch, little mini-town for smaller kids, plus volleyball and kids playground. All v good condition.
Pitches very well kept. Managed efficiently with effective clean up of each pitch as soon as someone vacated.
    Lovely cafe on site.
All in all a very good location and good choice.

    Disliked:

Without wanting to sound like a killjoy, I believe if rules are there they should be abided by as much as possible. The park advised at check in that quiet time is from 10pm. Of course you still expect there to be chatter and laughter (and the occasional family disagreement!), but people continued to drive in until 1am with loud car stereos, and then go into their tents and watch movies! Call me old fashioned but I see camping as a chance to get away from TV and noise, but if you must watch movies at least use headphones. It was like being at a drive-in movie one night without the benefit of watching the movie, just hearing it!
Nobody seemed to patrol in the evenings (despite a sign up saying there would be extra checks as the entry barrier was broken).
This was the only real disappointment that stopped me giving 5*. You could say the park cannot control the selfishness of some people, but it wouldn't take much for them to patrol and ask for the noise to be kept down.

WiFi not working properly. Kids pool closed because of fault. Not much good for 3 year olds. Security barrier not working. key pad on toilet block not in use.Dog walk pathetic. Bins overflowing adding to wasp problem. Had to ask for my pitch to be cleared of rubbish before pitching. Have used this site before under previous ownership with no problems. Company who own it do not take phone calls to discuss issues. Put in writing and got very poor response. No response to follow up communication. Overpriced. Would I go again. NO

The toilets are very old, and there were only one block for the whole site, so by the end of the day some of the toilets unpleasant. Could do with some major investment to add more facilities. Pitches are also very close together.

Local attractions

Hold on to your hats, folks: the team on site have many suggestions for a day out round these parts. Beach days, for starters – on the sandy stretch in Bournemouth perhaps, or rubbing shoulders with the swanky folks at Sandbanks, both of which are half an hour away by car. Charmouth, an hour away, is the place for dino-loving kids to ferret out a fossil or two.

Potter down to Poole Quay (half an hour away) for boat trips to Brownsea Island, or drive down to Durdle Door (45 minutes) to swim or kayak through the huge limestone arch. Away from the coast, the New Forest National Park is half an hour away for fresh-air frolics including walks, horse rides and canoe trips.

And keep the kids on best behaviour with the promise of a trip to Peppa Pig World, Monkey World, Adventure Wonderland or Go Ape!, all of which are within a half-hour drive.
