  • Family campsite on a Dorset farm 15 minutes’ drive from Weymouth
  • Abbotsbury Swannery 15 minutes’ drive; Monkey World 35 minutes
  • Games field, play area and outdoor swimming pool on site
You couldn’t get a more family-friendly site than West Fleet Holiday Farm. At 15 minutes’ drive from Weymouth in Dorset, there’s masses of space to kick a ball around, a three-acre play area with swings and slides, and an outdoor swimming pool with glimpses of the sea. The farm is set in 15 acres of countryside on the Jurassic Coast, within walking distance of Fleet Lagoon (the setting for John Meade Falkner’s smuggling tale ‘Moonfleet,’ half an hour’s stroll) and Chesil Beach (about 40 minutes). You can also amble down to the South West Coast Path on the private farm track (20 minutes), or walk to the local pub in about the same time. Weymouth, its harbour and sandy beaches (15 minutes’ drive) provide fun-filled family days out, and the site is a handy base for exploring family attractions on the Jurassic Coast like Lyme Regis and Charmouth (both 40 minutes). There are plenty of helpful facilities on site, including a shop and off-licence carrying all the essentials, as well as showers, washing-up points and a launderette. In keeping with this being a family-centric site, please keep noise to an absolute minimum between 10.30pm and 8am, so everyone can get some shut eye.

What customers say

This is a very clean, tidy and quiet campsite, especially appreciated by families. Pitches are spacious and level. Facilities, including toilets, showers, and washing-up stations, are consistently described as immaculate and well-maintained. The heated swimming pool is a popular feature, though booking slots can be awkward. The on-site shop is well-stocked and reasonably priced. Staff are frequently praised for being friendly and helpful. Some guests noted that the clubhouse and entertainment are seasonal, and a few found the rules to be extensive. Access to beaches requires a drive or bus journey.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Perfect camp site for families. The facilities are spot on. Immaculate toilets and showers, and I mean pristine. Really new looking, always clean and warm. Good washing up station.

The play park is good fun and even a little club house open for a few hours in the evening serving food and drink which we didn't expect. Lovely big area to run around in by the park too.

The shop is well stocked and has everything you need. Lovely ladies working there, my shy, sensitive boy felt happy to go on errands on his own to the shop and said the lady was lovely. The prices are also very reasonable, my children bought little toys for pocket money.

The pool is glorious, cool in warm weather but as its heated you dont get too cold after a while. Booking is easy and we went twice in one day.

Spacious, nicely level pitches. It seemed quiet when we were there and only a few campers in our paddock. Hedges seperate the field which I like as I like the bedroom of our tent backing onto the hedge for extra noise protection. Loads of room around the pitches to play ball or Frisbee of an evening.

The site has rules around noise which are adhered to which I appreciate as having been to a site before spoilt by rowdy, inconsiderate campers its nice to know everyone's enjoyment is considered.

Its perfect for families, even having a bath which i have not seen at a campsite before! I would highly recommend this site.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. The only thing I would improve is having a freezer for ice packs. The shop do sell frozen bottles of water for £1 which do the job and are ok but ice blocks are easier.

Liked Great camp site with good facilities and the swimming pool was great especially on the hottest weekend of the year. I liked that it was nice and quiet at night no rowdy campers so I could actually get to sleep.

Disliked Nothing that we didn't like.

Paul C. 1 review

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Pitch was good, location easy access to Weymouth and shops. There's a farm walk down towards Fleet but no beach access via this but the views are great. Shop has got lots of essentials for food, drink and camping. Pool is lovely on a hot day. Was able to book 1 hour slots but understand this gets reduced to half hour slots in busier periods. The slots are a little bit awkward to plan around but they do keep the amount of people down to a suitable amount so it's worth the effort. The bar was open from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with food being served for a couple of hours. The food was good. Kids loved the bingo on Saturday. We all had a great time.

Disliked No options for fresh produce at the shop but recognise this is difficult to hold stock. Maybe being able to order bakery goods for delivery in the morning is something that might be an option? It's difficult to get the camper van ready to go out and doing that first thing is impossible before everyone has eaten breakfast so a croissant is out of the option!!!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site was lovely, clean, modern facilities. There is a sad mall park for younger kids and a club house with a little kids club. The pool was also small but great. The site was well organised, and it was clear that this was family oriented not for noisy or disruptive groups. It felt safe for the kids, who had lots of fun and made some friends.

Disliked The shop could have had a better selection but I’m being picky

Liked Tidy site

Disliked Said 40 minutes to beach, it's 40 minutes to see the beach in the distance, cant walk there as its another 5 miles. Can get a bus which is 20 minute walk from site down a road i wouldn't walk let alone take my dog, then its an hour on the bus.we saw people on the site getting taxis. Not very dog friendly, couldn't take her in shop, this is the first time we've ever had that In many years of travelling. Lots of rules particularly about dogs. Spoke to another couple with a dog they couldn't believe it either. And as for having a clubhouse its only open 2 1/2 hours in evening. Expensive site for nothing much there unless you want to book a slot at the pool.

From the manager: Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. There are several walks to the coast, each a round trip of about 40 mins. Depending on how fast you walk. Several circuit walks of aprox 3 - 4 km 40 mins to 1 hour, And many longer walks if you love walking. Not 40 mins there and 40 mins back to view the sea,.
Our nearest bus stop is a 15 - 20 walk. The less frequent bus (x53) doesn't involve walking the rural road to the park, the more regular bus from Chickerell to Weymouth is 1.5 mile walk but every 20 mins during the day. Footpath option for most of this walk rather than walking the lane. Taxis are more convenient,
Swimming beaches are 5 miles away at Weymouth. Fishing beaches 5 miles away at Portland or Abbotsbury

Local attractions

Weymouth (15 minutes’ drive) on the West Dorset Heritage Coast is a popular seaside resort for several very good reasons. As well as flopping on the beach on sunny days, you can try dinghy sailing, kayaking or windsurfing, watch the Town Bridge lift (and bring the traffic to halt) to let yachts into the marina, or learn about the Black Death of 1348 at the history museum. Most kids will adore meeting endangered primates at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (35 minutes). You can feed the stately birds (and cygnets in spring) at Abbotsbury Swannery, or wander around the water features at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens to spot sculptures tucked into the undergrowth. Both attractions are 15 minutes by car and set on Chesil Beach – just the spot for a bracing stroll in the sea air. Putting a bit of heritage into your holiday mix, have a gander at the gun platforms and Tudor kitchens in Portland Castle (20 minutes), while red-and-white Portland Bill Lighthouse (half an hour) has splendid views over the Jurassic Coast from its lantern room. Fans of military vehicles can spend all day admiring scores of vintage tanks at The Tank Museum (40 minutes), while railway buffs might prefer to see the scenic coastline on board a Swanage Railway steam train (an hour).
