  • Scenic farm site in the Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve
  • A 10-minute drive to Wareham and 25 minutes to Poole
  • Firepit hire and wood/kindling sales, plus yoga classes on request
Spacious fields, wide open skies and fab views towards castles and sea… If that ticks the boxes, make tracks for grassy Knoll Farm Campsite, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Wareham. This is a particularly scenic Dorset spot too: in the Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve and within 15 minutes of the Jurassic Coast, this is a prime destination for taking in world-famed scenery and coastal and countryside walks. It’s also close to lots of avenues for hiking and biking, so get pedalling on the 11-kilometre Sika Trail in Wareham Forest or turn feet towards the Purbeck Hills for walks, both about 10 minutes away. Prefer strolls to be a little sandier? The site’s within easy reach of plenty of beaches, seaside towns and Jurassic Coast landmarks, including Lulworth Cove, Studland, Swanage, Man O’War Beach and Durdle Door all within 25 minutes of base. After all that, almost no energy need be expended back on site (although yoga classes are available on request): there’s no parking next to pitches, but there are trolleys and staff to help carry belongings from cars. Wood and kindling are for sale and there are firepits to hire, so no need to lug the barbecue along from home. Fancy a night off cooking? A pub serving local eats is about 10 minutes’ walk from the site. This is a peaceful site whose facilities simply stretch to toilets, a washing-up area and a simple shower. Things hot up at weekends, with the large communal firepit being lit on Friday and Saturday evenings for social times, and a bunch of extras including yoga classes, kids' entertainment and on-site food.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Showers were great - plenty of hot water, no waiting. Car parking was good. Toilets at every turn 🤣 the ponies crossing the road were cute. Great view of Corfe castle. I felt very safe.

Disliked: The wind was relentless and the camping field took an absolute battering when I visited, but difficult to hold them accountable for the British weather!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Arrived at campsite and were greeted by the people running the site, they were very friendly and told us where was best to camp in terms of views, noise and location. Able to rent a fire pit which came with lots of wood. Clean toilets and portaloo for closer trips in the night. Hot water and in a good location.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location, The choose your own pitch space, The owners were very friendly!

Disliked: First shower I had was ice cold, after battling my hypothermia for a 5 minute shower it then became lovely and hot (sods law!) Hot water for showered is available, just a little fickle. Had some people pitch too close to us despite an empty field which made me wish there was a bit more enforcement on spacings, but nothing major.

Local attractions

Step into the past by wandering along to Corfe Castle, less than five minutes’ drive from base. The 11th-century castle was built by William the Conqueror and was one of the earliest to be built in England – that’s more than 1,000 years of history to explore around this spectacular ruin. Staying in the days of yore is far from challenging too: take a ride on the Swanage Railway heritage steam trains, pay a visit to the spectacular 17th-century Lulworth Castle, call into the Clouds Hill cottage that TE Lawrence once called home (it’s a National Trust writers’ museum now), or rumble through the Bovington tank museum, all within 15 minutes of base. Kids in tow will likely get up to all sorts of monkey business at Monkey World ape rescue centre 15 minutes from the site, but are more likely to be seen five minutes away swinging around the waterpark and mud trail at Dorset Adventure Park. Less active guests, on the other hand, might prefer to wander along to the Blue Pool – also within five minutes – to meet the Wareham Bears (that’s 200 teddies in their own model village).
