General

  • Bell tents in a two-acre private section of the Furzebrook Estate
  • A five-minute drive to Corfe Castle; 20 minutes to Jurassic Coast
  • Beds, firepit and lanterns provided; private toilet for each tent

Potter down to this pop-up Dorset glamping site… in a rather fabulous location within the Furzebrook Estate and right next to the gorgeous Blue Pool Nature Reserve on the Isle of Purbeck, Blue Pool Camping is a good place to put one’s feet up.

Just a handful of tents are set up in the two-acre site here, so there’s plenty of space for everyone to relax (and plenty of privacy too, thanks in part to each tent having its own standalone long-drop compost toilet).

It’s all been set up in an eco-conscious off-grid manner, with comfy but modest furnishings. Beds, a table and solar lighting have been provided in the tents, but please note that you’ll need to bring your own bedding. Each tent also has a firepit (with a box of firewood and kindling supplied and more available to buy), an outdoor seating area and lanterns to help you find your way around after dark.

Whatever drinks and food you need for a fine evening by the fire can be picked up in Wareham, five minutes’ drive away; if you’d rather delegate cooking responsibilities, there’s a pub (with real ales) just under a mile away and a tearoom by the Blue Pool for hot drinks, cakes, pasties and cream teas.

The dazzling Blue Pool, just next door, should obviously be top of your to-visit list, but there’s plenty more to keep you busy around here, including trips to Corfe Castle, Monkey World and the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, 20 minutes’ drive away.

Perfect location for exploring Dorset! Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door & Monkey World all less than 15 minute drive away.

The Blue Pool is stunning & a huge bonus that we got to explore with free entry while staying on site. Staff were all extremely friendly.

Campsite was all you could ask for, clean, peaceful, well maintained, a haven for nature, especially the stunning fallow deer. Fresh water tap on site was a welcome bonus!

The lack of electric, reception & wifi on the wild camping site was great for a digital detox!

The long drop toilets were well equipped with toilet roll & hand sanitiser!

The night sky was stunning with minimal light pollution making it a great location for stargazing which was one of the highlights of our trip!

We will definitely be back to stay again.

The only downer was the walk of shame through the posh bell tent sites to get to the wild site!!!! Haha!!

    Very private
    3 compost loos
Herd of deer for company each evening
Buses to Lulworth Cove and Swanage

    Disliked:

For the price you don’t get much, one tap in field (no washing up place) and 3 shared compost loos. No place to charge devices or freeze ice blocks.
Not really wild camping, just a spot in a field.
Crossing the road for the bus stop is very dangerous

Local attractions

Those of you who rate beach days highly there will be in a good patch here. Whether it’s setting sail with the help of the nearby Wareham Boat Hire (five minutes’ drive), loafing about at Lulworth Cove (20 minutes) for the afternoon or getting dreamy-eyed over Durdle Door (25 minutes), there’s a fair-sized serving of the coast.

What other seaside spots are there to take in? Well, there’s Studland beach (15 minutes) too or Swanage (15 minutes), where there’s a beach and the heritage railway to hark back to the old times.

For a little more of that sort of historic stuff, The Tank Museum (15 minutes) has a good collection of war tanks going on and Corfe Castle (five minutes) has a lot of tales within its walls, from its life as a Saxon stronghold, Norman castle and palace for the royals.

To finish things off with a visit to the animal world, there’s the Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (15 minutes) and the family-friendly Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (20 minutes) for tractor rides and other farm-themed adventures.
