  • Relaxing woodland glamping site exclusively for couples
  • A mile south of Tolpuddle; half an hour's drive from Ringstead Bay
  • Luxurious bell tent with carpets, chandelier and a private firepit
Described by its owners as a mossy clearing hidden among rhododendron flowers, The Wellness Woods is a relaxing retreat with a single bell tent that's designed exclusively for couples. Located in a forested area of central Dorset, the site sits about a mile to the south of the historic village of Tolpuddle and is within half an hour's drive of the spectacular Jurassic Coast. The spacious bell tent on offer here comes smartly kitted out with a large bed and lots of soft furnishings and carpets. Decoration like a chandelier add to the luxurious vibe, while lanterns outside create a cosy feeling in the evening. This is a pretty off-grid location and is all about connecting to nature – hence the site's very own woodland altar – but it does have access to a small private car park, a basic but clean composting toilet and a bucket-style camp shower. There's also rustic outdoor furniture and a firepit – you can either bring your own logs or order some from the site before you arrive. The Wellness Woods is about a mile from the nearest pub and restaurant – handy for those times when you're not feeling self-catering over an open fire.

Local attractions

The Tolpuddle area is famous for the Tolpuddle Martyrs, a group of men convicted of trying to engage in collective bargaining for better wages in the 1830s and exiled to Australia. You can find out more about the six local men and their significance at the small museum in the village. Under 10 minutes away by car, Athelhampton House and Gardens has a large Tudor mansion and gorgeous grounds to explore at your leisure – there's also a good café here if you fancy some light refreshment. Another popular stately home in the area is Kingston Lacy (30 minutes), a National Trust-managed property with a Victorian fernery, sunken garden and a fine collection of roses. If natural landscapes are what you've come here to see, head south to Ringstead Bay (half an hour), or marvel at the huge natural limestone arch at Durdle Door beach (also half an hour). The rolling hills, brilliant beaches and untouched woodlands of the Isle of Purbeck peninsula are also within reach (30 minutes), as are the wildlife havens Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island (half an hour's drive to Poole followed by a short ferry ride).
