The Campsite

  • Peaceful rural site surrounded by woodland on the Jurassic Coast
  • Within five minutes’ walk of Ringstead Bay, a dog-friendly beach
  • On a working dairy farm with a shared fridge and freezer; café nearby
It pays to pack your walking boots for Ringstead Bay Camping, a peaceful, family-friendly site on a working dairy farm adjacent to the Jurassic Coast Path. Break them in with a five-minute walk to dog-friendly Ringstead Bay, before tackling the longer strolls to famed Durdle Door (under two hours’ walk) and Lulworth Cove (an extra 30 minutes of walking). This rural site should tick a lot of boxes, with its two and a half acres of relatively flat grass. There’s immediate access to footpaths from the site, but if your dog needs a quick run-around, there’s also an on-site (and off-leash) dog exercise area. You're also welcome to park next to your pitch. Nearby Ringstead Bay is a sweet spot for swimming, paddleboarding, windsurfing, surfing or launching a small boat. Let the children have a rummage through the rockpools around the reefs. Down by the bay (10 minutes’ walk or a five-minute drive from the field), there’s a café and shop with a kids’ play area and food like freshly made breakfasts, baps, woodfired pizzas and scampi and fries (ask for a takeaway if needed). They also stock basic camping essentials. Prefer to make your own meals? The on-site communal building, The Armoury, has a shared fridge and freezer. It also has lockable charging points for small devices. Elsewhere on site, there are toilets, showers, washing-up sinks and drinking water. You’re welcome to set up a fire, as long as it’s raised off the ground. The sheltered field has woodland on three sides, so access is via a private road through the woodland. Look out for the sea, Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland through the trees on the southern side. And here’s a nice fact about the field: it once held an American military establishment, so original bunkers, outbuildings and a World War II lookout are nearby.

Bell tent

Liked First time camping! I ended up in one of your large tents which was fabulous, all the facilities were clean and really helpful staff.
Lovely location, dog and family friendly, atmosphere was really relaxed and happy. Easy walk to the beach and there’s a delicious cafe close by too though I would say, with all the walking you need to be moderately fit. Would highly recommend camping here if choosing Dorset.

Bell tent

Liked We had a lovely stay at this campsite! Everything is very well organised, and you have everything you need right at hand. We stayed in a bell tent, which was comfortable and a great experience.

The showers and toilet facilities were clean and well maintained. The campsite is only a 5-minute walk from the beach, and around a 15-minute walk to a local pub, which is perfect if you don’t feel like cooking.

The views are absolutely amazing and really make the stay special. We would definitely recommend this campsite and would happily stay again!

Bell tent

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolutely fantastic family campsite!

We had such a lovely stay at Ringstead Bay Campsite and would highly recommend it, especially to families!

We stayed in one of the already-constructed tents on site, which was spotlessly clean and in a beautiful location with an amazing view out towards the sea. Waking up to that view was pretty special!

The facilities were brilliant. The showers and toilets were always spotless, and we really liked that hoses were provided so campers could easily keep everything clean after using them. There were plenty of fridges and freezers available, and the phone-charging building was such a useful addition. It is a slight walk from the camping area, but the husbands seemed more than happy to volunteer for the job — apparently it was a very convenient way to escape the children for a few minutes! 😂

What really stood out was how family-friendly the whole campsite felt. There were so many families staying, with children of all different ages. Ours were probably among the youngest at 20 months, while other families had teenagers, and it just had such a lovely, relaxed family atmosphere.

But the absolute best part of our stay was the staff. Every single person we dealt with was friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful. They genuinely seemed to care about making everyone’s stay as enjoyable as possible, and they made an already lovely campsite even better.

Beautiful location, fantastic sea views, spotless facilities, a wonderful atmosphere and genuinely brilliant staff. We really couldn’t fault our stay in any way.

Highly, highly recommend Ringstead Bay Campsite — we would absolutely stay again! ⭐️

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I thought this was a brilliant little campsite close to the coast and a fantastic place to go to test out your camping equipment for the first couple times. Staff genuinely went round to greet everyone and check in and made sure we knew where to go if we needed anything during our stay. Very friendly staff who want you to have a fantastic stay. Campsite was clean and tidy.

Local attractions

Those who pack their walking boots can have a nice time mapping out potential routes. There’s a stunning route east to White Nothe (less than an hour’s walk). Osmington Mills (15 minutes’ walk or 10 minutes’ drive) and a popular 17th-century pub are in the other direction. Walk further west to reach Bowleaze Cove and Weymouth’s sandy beach and attractions like an aquarium and miniature golf. Driving to Lulworth (25 minutes)? Pay a visit to the abandoned village of Tyneham (half an hour), which can be visited when the firing ranges are closed, or take a round-about route to The Tank Museum (20 minutes) and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes). If you’re going west by car, perhaps consider touring the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (35 minutes), Lyme Regis (an hour) and West Bay (45 minutes), the filming location for Broadchurch.
