  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Swimming pool - although the indoor pool is £3.50 per session.

Children's playground.

Bus stop outside the campsite to Lyme Regis.

Very friendly and helpful staff in the leisure centre.

Clean facilities in wash block.

Disliked Dreadful and I mean DREADFUL pitches. One of worst I've ever stayed on. MINISCULE to the point where I couldn't extend guy ropes of my small 4 man tent in order to fit my small car and tent on the pitch (no alternative parking was offered).

Ground is hard and rocky. Good luck getting your pegs in. I was wielding my mallet like Thor's hammer and stones and gravel made it impossible.

Pitches were poorly maintained- scrubby grass and an extremely strong and disgusting smell of dog wee that has completely permeated my tent to the point I'm not sure it is salvageable after 3 nights on the pitch from hell.

Very noisy atmosphere until late at night. Lots of groups of adults and their children, parents drinking at the tent while children run around pitches noisily until 10pm at the earliest. I like kids and camp with my own son but this is not a good vibe and makes it very hard for other kids to sleep.

Proximity to A35 makes for a lot of road noise.

£51 pounds per night for all of the above - WITHOUT electric hookup!

Friendly staff and love that we were escorted to our pitch

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The indoor pool, clean, warm and not over crowded (have to book on) hour slot, changing facilities for the pool also clean and well maintained.

Quietness after dark - good for families with young kids getting to sleep.

Shop on site simple but essential.

5 minutes drive from the beach (pebbled beach so deffo wear your beach shoes)

Evening entertainment was ok.

Disliked There’s nowhere to pull up and wait on arrival so your sat in the middle of the car park trying to avoid multiple cars / vans / trucks coming and going as it’s a leisure centre as-well (multiple deliveries etc) so was always busy and on main road so unable to pull up out the way of the car park.

How far away the park was from the touring caravan park and that it was so far away from the main bit of the park itself.

The amount of dog poop on the dog field - used it daily but there was always some dog pooh on there - not ideal with young children.

Pitch size for touring caravans small and not easy to park up being on steep hill - unless you’ve a motor mover you’ll be ok (although the pitch itself is level) and if pitched with awning car up tight to caravan next to you.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Pitch was good with easy electrical hook up and superb views across the valley and Charmouth. Good facilities on site. Bar was well staffed and restaurant food was good. Good to see a decent real ale on tap (Tribute).

Disliked Getting access to the swimming pool was difficult at suitable times. Seems to have been a change here - I'm not sure it's a good idea to open it up to all from the surrounding area. It limits the times people on-site can use it. It is the campers who are paying the (somewhat inflated) fees to stay on the site, not the community in general. Perhaps a reduced rate for campers ?

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Our first camping experience and it didn't disappoint! The camp is wonderful and clean, beautiful view, so close to the beach, hot clean showers, hot water for washing up our utensils, big play area for kids, two pools, soft play...we did not want to leave. Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Quiet area. We had a small tent but the campsite takes tents of all shapes and sizes. We will be back!

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
