What customers say

This campsite boasts a superb location, just a short walk from the beach and local pub, with excellent coastal walks nearby. Facilities are generally praised for their cleanliness and maintenance. Visitors appreciated the easy check-in process, well-stocked on-site shop, and spacious pitches. While many enjoyed the beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere, some noted concerns about the sloping nature of the camping field, occasional queues for limited showers, and the distance to facilities from some pitches. Dog-friendliness is highlighted.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The Big Berries field was clean and tidy, the views were beautiful, very spacious and handy having our cars near the tent. We found people were considerate and it was quiet by night time.
The site overall was very clean and tidy and it was handy having a shop, laundrette and food truck arrive on the weekend.

Disliked There needs to be a few more toilets in the field as we had to queue a few times and they ran out of toilet roll by the morning. The showers were good, but there needs to be more than 3 for the size of the field and the water runs hot and then cold. You need to be able to control the temperature for the younger ones. I think it would be good to have a sign in the shower room saying “once you’ve showered you need to move to a cubicle to change etc”. This would help with the shower queues. There could be a little play area for the kids in the field.

From the manager: Thank you for the feedback on your stay.
We are glad that your enjoyed the views.
Big Berries is not owned by us, it is rented from a local farmer for the school holidays so we cannot put any structures or play parks.

We had a lovely time at Golden Camp Holiday Park.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Choosing our own pitch and how close it was to Seatown Beach. The toilets were really nice and clean. Every part of the site had a lovely view.

Disliked There were very few showers for the size of the site. The field was on a hill but it was possible to find a mostly flat pitch.

From the manager: Thank you from all of the team, we are happy that you found the toilets clean and enjoyed the views.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good price, clean facilities where camping, handy spar on site, only 5 mins walk to beach from camp site on an easy access road. Coastal walks, lyme regis and seaton a quick 15 drive away. Would deffinately come back.

Disliked Disliked stony beach as young son wanted sand for sandcastles but that not within their control unfortunately. A soft play would be nice or access to the playground from the access road. Or a few play things on the camping field would be great for youngsters.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The location, staff, pitch size and the local food trucks that visit during the week. The little shop offers lots of choice which is really helpful. The beach is less than a five minute walk and the local pub is delightful.

Disliked The ‘exclusive’ toilets for the hard standing pitches as advertised, are not. Even though you are given a code, everybody uses them from people camping in the neighbouring field, people who pull up in their vans (not staying on the site) and individuals using the local beach. The toilets and showering facilities, even though they are new, are over used and were dirty and blocked at times. This is a real shame.
From what I could see, there is also nothing to stop anyone from entering the site which made me concerned, especially at night. It states you need to enter your registration details to enter the site. However, I didn’t see a barrier and as our pitch was right next to the through road and the washing facilities, you could watch numerous people coming and going that were clearly not staying on the site. This is again a shame, as the site itself is lovely and it is being misused.

Local attractions

Start at Stonebarrow Hill for 25 miles’ worth of walking trails around Golden Cap, making sure to pause after you puff uphill for the views across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor. There’s a National Trust information point, shops and toilets in an old radar station on the hill to make a pitstop at before taking the trail through Langdon Hill Wood, taking the Smugglers’ Trail, or clambering cliffwards to see the ancient Thorncombe Beacon and views to Bridport and Chesil Beach, one of the biggest shingle stretches in the country. A walk east from the beacon will take you to the seaside village and coastal views of Eype, or you can wander west to the beach at Charmouth for more fossil hunting. Other recommended day trips from Golden Cap are Lyme Regis with crazy golf on top of the promenade, the fishing village of Beer which can be combined with a trip to Seaton or Sidmouth, and the miles of sandy beach at West Bay with boat trips. If you have little animal enthusiasts along on your trip, take them to hand-feed the 600 swans at Abbotsbury Swannery, or to get nautical at Weymouth Sea Life Park. For more grownup west Dorset attractions try Forde Abbey, Sherborne Castle or the Haynes Motor Museum… the kids might not mind these too much if you then take them to Dorchester’s award-winning Dinosaur Museum.
