  • Part of a 2,000-acre National Trust estate on the Jurassic Coast
  • A 150-metre stroll from a beach for sea angling and fossil hunting
  • Fishing lake, play area and shop on site
Want to feel on top of the world? Travel down to Dorset and Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast of England and part of a 2000-acre National Trust estate. Golden Cap Holiday Park is the most cap-tastic place to take all this in, as it’s surrounded by peaceful Dorset countryside and part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. And, as should be expected in Dorset, it’s right next to the water – in the seaside village of Seatown and 150 metres from a shingle beach known for its sea angling and fossil hunting. Facilities at the park are excellent – there are two big modern shower/toilet blocks, a launderette and a well-stocked shop. Wifi is available across the whole park priced from an hour to a season – just buy a ticket online. Guests can also pay to use the leisure facilities at the other West Dorset Leisure Holiday Park in the area, Highlands End Holiday Park which has a sauna/steam room and a heated indoor pool. And if you just can’t bring yourself to walk that 150 metres for some beach fishing, you can take it easy instead at Golden Cap’s own fishing lake.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a beautiful location with stunning coastal views, a short walk from the beach and local amenities. Visitors praised the clean facilities, well-stocked shop, and helpful staff. A common point of feedback is the distance of the main shower block from the camping field, though a closer toilet block is appreciated. Some guests mentioned hilly pitches and occasional noise from other campers.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Huge site. Well sign posted. Great facilities. Friendly staff. Lovely fishing lake

Disliked Distance from Berry Camping to dish - washing facilities, bit of a trek. Toilet block in camping field has precarious heavy doors in high winds, better signs to explain how to secure be helpful. Not ideal for children or anyone not strong!

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked You can chose the place where to pitch up. The toilets and shower block is clean. At the tent camping there are only toilets, but the big shower block is 5 min walk only. There is loundry with dryer as well. Also hair dryer.
Our friend's car broke down and they have been very helpful. Also, we arrived one hour earlier and they let us in. Overall great.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I lived near Seatown as a kid and have been camping at the campsite ever since.

Getting down to the beach takes less than 15 minutes and on a quiet night you can hear the waves breaking from your tent.

A really nice site with all the necessary amenities - well-stocked shop, nice showers and bathrooms- even a full on dog cleaning tub.

This time I was staying during the drought so was unable to cook but was saved by the really friendly food van guy serving delicious curry.

I really appreciate the toilet stalls in the camping field now- I remember you used to have to high-tail it to the toilet block near the caravans in the middle of the night if caught short.

Really great site and such a good location for walking, beachside weekend, etc

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Bathroom and showers are well kept and clean.

Disliked The camping field is not the flattest so you land up sleeping or setting up a tent at an angle.

Liked The campsite was fantastic! The toilets were clean, plentiful, and always conveniently close by. The showers, EV chargers were all within easy walking distance, which made the stay really comfortable and hassle-free.

And the views were absolutely stunning! 🌿🏕️

Honestly, what more could you ask for from a campsite? We really enjoyed our stay!

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great view. Lots of space for kids to play, park where you like. Lots of toilets that you can park near if you desire.
Very clean shower facilities & washing up facilities. Being able to use the freezer to freeze ice blocks was a great thing.

Disliked Finding a level pitch area took some time due to the hilly field. In a camper would have been easy as a simple block would fix

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely quiet campsite shower block really clean and warm. You don’t have to pay for the hairdryer which is a bonus. Dog wash also lovely. Great pub within touching distance. Really pleased overall. We will definitely return.

Local attractions

Start at Stonebarrow Hill for 25 miles’ worth of walking trails around Golden Cap, making sure to pause after you puff uphill for the views across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor. There’s a National Trust information point, shops and toilets in an old radar station on the hill to make a pitstop at before taking the trail through Langdon Hill Wood, taking the Smugglers’ Trail, or clambering cliffwards to see the ancient Thorncombe Beacon and views to Bridport and Chesil Beach, one of the biggest shingle stretches in the country. A walk east from the beacon will take you to the seaside village and coastal views of Eype, or you can wander west to the beach at Charmouth for more fossil hunting. Other recommended day trips from Golden Cap are Lyme Regis with crazy golf on top of the promenade, the fishing village of Beer which can be combined with a trip to Seaton or Sidmouth, and the miles of sandy beach at West Bay with boat trips. If you have little animal enthusiasts along on your trip, take them to hand-feed the 600 swans at Abbotsbury Swannery, or to get nautical at Weymouth Sea Life Park. For more grownup west Dorset attractions try Forde Abbey, Sherborne Castle or the Haynes Motor Museum… the kids might not mind these too much if you then take them to Dorchester’s award-winning Dinosaur Museum.
