Tear off whichever chunk of Hampshire and Dorset you fancy… with the small, family-run site at The Homestead as your base, you’ll have easy access to a wide range of attractions across the two counties, including the New Forest National Park, Bournemouth beach and the Jurassic Coast. Where exactly is this splendid place? Well, it’s on the edge of the small village of West Parley near Ferndown and it’s full of greenery, flowering plants and local wildlife. The pitches are set on level grass fields sheltered by mature oak trees, while the site’s handy amenities are kept to a high standard, including modern toilet and shower blocks and a washing-up area. The Homestead is just over the road from a popular garden centre with a café, and it’s five minutes’ walk from the nearest pub (both handy for any urgent hunger pangs). With a bus stop a few minutes’ walk away, it’s also simple to leave the car behind, as there regular services into Bournemouth town centre.

Liked Everything was ideal. Great facilities. Nice surroundings, though the traffic noise was continuous in the background. Helpful staff.

Disliked A large black Cane Corso type dog was loose at 6am, caused mayhem and damage to my car paint trying to get at the terrier shut in the boot and acted aggressively towards me. The owners were irresponsible.

Liked Tidy ground, clean excellent showers and loos.

Disliked Told to pitch up ‘anywhere’, so we did near one of the provided wooden benches. Several hours later a van pulled up with a guy jumping out yelling we were on “his” pitch and to get off. Turns out he ‘does some work’ on the ground and appears to ‘own’ that part of the pitch. We had to decamp and go somewhere else, which we’d happily done in the first place if told not to camp in any particular spot. It left a sour taste overall and really the campground management might find a better way to inform visitors of ‘no-go’ areas occupied by their workers.

Liked Absolutely everything. The lady on reception was very welcoming. We were able to pick our own pitch (we had non-electric tent pitch). We have visited 8 different sites this year and this one was by far the best. The showers and toilets were outstanding - clean, spacious and instant hot water. There is a garden centre next door that does and an excellent cake and breakfast.

Perhaps horse riding, cycling or canoeing on the Beaulieu river in the New Forest National Park (from 15 minutes’ drive)? Swimming, sea kayaking, kitesurfing or jetskiing in Poole waters, or basking on Sandbanks beach (25 minutes)?
