General

  • Small-scale, sustainable farm site in a relaxed rural location
  • A mile from the A361 and a 10-minute drive from Tiverton
  • Views over open countryside; five minutes' drive from a gastropub

Looking for a site that'll allow you to tick off a few items on your bucket list? If skydiving, cycle trips around Exmoor National Park and learning to surf on the north Devon coast are in your top 10, then you'll want to take a closer look at Sydeham Farm Glamping, a sustainable farm site where all of these activities are reachable in under 45 minutes' drive.

This well-located spot is just a mile off the A361, putting lots of attractive West Country scenery within reach. Not that you'll grow tired of the on-site outlook – classic country sights like Aberdeen Angus cattle, sheep, woodlands and open farmland are all visible from the main pitching field, which overlooks a peaceful valley. The local area is always full of wildlife, with common spots including red deer, foxes, badgers and majestic birds of prey.

Sydeham Farm Glamping's eco-friendly ethos means that you'll come across recycling facilities, sustainably-sourced firewood and solar panels here. All guests have access to a good range of facilities, including well-kept toilets, gas-fired hot showers, picnic benches and shared outdoor kitchen facilities.

The small village of Rackenford, where there's a highly-recommended gastropub, is a five-minute drive away, while the larger town of Tiverton (10 minutes) is on hand for supermarkets, cafés and outdoor adventure equipment.

Beautiful rural setting on a working farm. Liz was quick to welcome us and take us to our tent. The bell tent was spotless and the facilities were immaculate, firewood and charcoal for the first night were a lovely touch. Steve brought us some more firewood on our second evening to make sure we were warm enough which was not included in the offer but a thoughtful personal gesture. Views were fantastic from our pitch and the beautiful old oak trees provided a great spot for our morning coffee. Hot shower was spot on and the little cooking area had everything needed for a camping meal, including cutlery and crockery. All in all I can't say a bad word about our experience. Thanks for your hospitality. We will be sure to see you again.

    Brand new glamping site.
Beautifully furnished Luna Bell tent with own well equipped kitchen and gas fired shower. Bbq and fire pit provided.
Log burner was a bonus on the cold nights and the fairy lights made it so cosy. Lovely comfortable beds.
Allocated toilet a few steps away.
    Peaceful rural location.

    Disliked:

No broom or dust pan and brush provided to sweep tent. Toilet was not kept stocked. Recycling needs reviewing only provided with a food waste bin no bags or bins to recycle at tent so had to walk up hill all the time with every bit of waste to main bins. No level surfaces for children to play games on.

From the manager...

A broom/dust pan and brush is a great idea - we have taken that on board and will definitely provide.
Toilets are always stocked with toilet paper.
The campsite field is on a slope but is very large - we are an unspoilt, peaceful campsite in a beautiful location with many attractions for children just a short drive away.

Lovey area, nice and quiet and out of the way if the main roads.

    Disliked:

No bell tent heating,- was number 3 bell tent so can only assume that it was recently added as had no inside wood burner (like number 1 and 2 did have ) so was freezing in the evenings. Owner messaged me on the day saying spare part should be there the next day ,but then got message at the end of our stay when we only had 1 night left asking to fit it (was too late and no point in disrupting us) messaged owner after didn’t get anywhere. Disappointing as otherwise lovely facilities.

From the manager...

This guest was informed before arriving that unfortunately we had been let down by the stove supplier and needed to replace a faulty part as it would not have been safe to fit - they were kept informed of progress as we were doing everything we could to solve the problem - it was a shame the guests did not let us know at any point that they were cold as we would have been very happy to provide extra duvets and blankets and hot water bottles to make them more comfortable - (it was over 20 degrees during the day) - as soon as the part arrived, I messaged them first thing in the morning to arrange a time to fit it so they would at least have had the benefit of the stove on their last night but they declined.
As a member of the Greener Camping Club we found it disappointing that these guests did not make any effort to recycle their rubbish using the facilities provided - it was all left for us to do.

Local attractions

Sydeham Farm Glamping is located between Tiverton and South Molton, a 20-minute drive from the southern edge of Exmoor National Park. In the surrounding area, you could go skydiving in Honiton (40 minutes), surfing or swimming on the sandy shores of Bideford (45 minutes), hike up to the top of Dunkery Beacon (40 minutes) or head for Go Ape Haldon (40 minutes) for an array of treetop challenges.

If that all sounds rather over-energetic then quieter pursuits are also available, such as touring the foliage at Knightshayes Gardens (15 minutes), riding the funicular railway in Lynton and Lynmouth (45 minutes) or angling of an afternoon at Bellbrook Valley Trout Fishery (15 minutes).

Assuming you can get the kids away from the cute farm animals back at base, it's also easy to find family-friendly attractions to keep your young ones happy. Top of the to-do list will be crowd-pleasers like Exmoor Zoo (30 minutes), The Big Sheep adventure farm (40 minutes) and Crealy Theme Park. Sweet-toothed toddlers, teens and other busy bees may also appreciate being so close to Quince Honey Farm (15 minutes), a hive of hands-on activities with lots of tasting opportunities.
