  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Walking distance from reservoirs; a 25-minute drive to Fingle Bridge
  • Ex-army mess tent for dining and relaxing; natural firepit area
Wild swimming, cycling, hiking or horse riding down lush Devon lanes… the wild and windswept Dartmoor National Park is where you’ll find Beech Tree Farm. At this peaceful site you’ll all have the run of a flat farm meadow with an adjoining copse of mature trees. There's plenty of space to go around too, and it's all centred around a natural firepit area and a large vintage army mess tent space for chilling out and cooking. The other facilities on site have a nice touch too – and that includes a railway carriage conversion with two loos, two hot water showers rooms, a mobile phone charging point and running water for dishwashing, drinking and cooking. Very well-behaved dogs are welcome (the usual doggy rules apply and bins are provided), as are children (there’s a huge area for them to run around). There is livestock on the farm, so guests are asked to be mindful (stag or hen parties are not permitted for this reason). The way here is quite hidden and you’ll pass Blackingstone Tor on your way. But you won’t be too far away from Moretonhampstead (10 minutes’ drive), where there are all the usual amenities including pubs, restaurants, cafés and takeaways, plus a supermarket, butcher, greengrocer and zero shop, all with locally-sourced food.

Liked: Great campsite for us. Clean toilets and hot water in a shower. Sheltered communal area with gas cooker and tables and everything you need to make a meal if it's pouring down. Looks lovely in the nighttime when fairy lights are on. Would come back.

Disliked: The only thing we thought about, more as a feedback, we wish there was a seprate bathroom sink, not together with a toilet in a cabin. Difficult to wash face and brush teeth.

Liked: We loved the size of the camping field and how few were on it. The facilities were fabulous too, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. We arrived and we left without anyone visiting us, which was fab! We had a wave from the quad bike, but other than that the hosts left us alone. We had our dogs with us and they aren’t great with people or other dogs coming over. That’s Terriers for you! We never heard a peep out of them though, they were totally settled during our stay. We found the area and lanes superb for dog walking and we would definitely visit again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Despite the awful weather, our stay at Beech Tree Campsite was everything we could have hoped for. A quiet rural location, plenty of space (there were only 2 or 3 tents at any one time), clean toilets and hot showers and a very friendly and helpful host. Jenny did everything she could to help us offering to tumble dry our sleeping bag after it had got wet, delivering fire wood for the fire pit and helping to restart 3 cars when they had flat batteries!! The campsite is beautiful, hidden away down some quiet country lanes and surrounded by beautiful scenery. We would definitely return here again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely location, really peaceful, nothing but the sound of sheep and birds. The field is big, mostly flat and is close to a local town with a few shops. The converted solar showers and toilets were very clean, lovely and warm with good pressure. There is only 2 of each, not a problem for us as we ended up being the only people there most of our stay however that may be a problem if the camp was full (not sure how many people they accommodate at once).

Disliked: Flies… so many flies!! Unable to comfortably sit outside as there is 100’s buzzing around you. Not sure if this is a normal thing or due to the weather etc… pack lots of citrus candles!! A place to freeze freezer blocks would be helpful
