  • Grass pitches at a north Devon campsite facing the Atlantic coast
  • Five minutes’ drive to Hartland Abbey, and 15 minutes to Clovelly
  • Information point and direct access to South West Coast Path
The folk who own Stoke Barton Farm Campsite know a thing or two about the area – they’ve farmed around this part of north Devon for generations and specifically at Stoke Barton for over 40 years. It’s also fair to say they know a thing or two about splendid family-friendly breaks – that’s what you get when you set down on these grass pitches facing the Atlantic coast. There are coastal views across the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to kickstart the holiday vibes. The information shed – which is kitted out with kettles, microwaves, a freezer and power points – is a handy source of useful knowledge as well as tending to your tummy, and only down the lane by the farmhouse. For all your food and drink needs you can go to the pubs at Hartland – five minutes’ drive or a half-hour walk. A local shop is also nearby and deliveries can be arranged. Since Stoke Barton Farm Campsite is on a working livestock and arable farm, you’ll see sheep grazing in fields neighbouring the pitches. There are 12 acres across the site in total, including plenty of space between pitches so you’ll never feel crowded. It’s wonderfully family friendly too, with facilities that include a football pitch where kids can let off steam, charging for devices (that’ll keep the teens quiet) and a launderette to keep everyone looking their best.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: great spot for South west coastal path
fabulous views of the coast
large clean well maintained site
lovely staff

Disliked: showers a long walk from pitches.
it was quiet while we were there but in the summer i guess the shower block would be constantly full

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Tracy but a shame you wouldn't return.
Regarding the showers being constantly full in the summer...I have never known a queue for them in 38 years as we never overfill our site for that reason. Despite it being a rented property we prefer to keep it spacious and comfortable.

I'd highly recommend the campsite to others.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: - Campsite was clean and spacious.
- Fields have been left with a wild area in the middle (great fun for the kids to play and hide and also for wildlife!)
- Ablutions were immaculately clean and restocked several times a day!! 😊
- Showers were always hot.
- Owners were very friendly and made you feel welcome.
- Chill out zone with sofas, charging points, freezer and tea/coffee (honesty box for the beverages)
- Small shop on site (just opened so will get more stock in 😊).
- Right on south west coast path!
- stunning views and sunsets!
- Lovely walks to the village and hartland quay.

Disliked: NO DISLIKES, just some suggestions….

- could do with another shower block.
- could do with another ablution and wash up block in the other fields.
- showers could do with having the push button time increased and different shower heads.

From the manager: Thank you for a lovely review Tess, much appreciated.
Re suggestions...Another shower block would be great but it is a big rented farm and site so a tad out of reach for us. We could definitely run to new shower heads though and will put those on the ' to do ' list

Excellent site ,wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: The site was veey open and far away from other pitches so lots of privacy. The showers, toilets etc was within a minute or two walk.

Disliked: The location is good as its out the way but isnt much around unless you go to the nearest town which is a half and hour car journey but that may be what people want but wasn't for us.

For future campers reading your review...

Our location is a big walking area, now featured in the film 'The Salt Path' which has just been released. Most come for the peace and quiet and the scenery plus walks, Lundy Island, Harland Quay, Hartland Abbey and Clovelly etc.
Our nearest towns are Bideford and Bude in opposite directions and are about 25 minutes away depending which town you head for.
We do have local shops though in our village and 5 pubs which are just under 2 miles away.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: The site is in a beautiful position. Very quiet. No road noise at all, not surprising as it is well away from the a39. The hits are very welcoming and informative about the local area. The toilets and showers are very (very) clean. You can walk down to the coast via a path across fields which takes about 15 mins. (Hartland Quay Hotel for food and drinks is a bonus after the walk 🤣).

We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for next weekend!!!

Well done to all that helps to make this site so amazing 🤩

This site has now become our favourite ❤️

Local attractions

How to begin your break in north Devon? With a long jaunt across the South West Coast Path, which can be accessed directly from site? More clifftop walks around Hartland Quay (five minutes’ drive), followed by a tasty pub meal? Clovelly (15 minutes) is another splendid seaside scene with cobbled slopes and a row of small fishing boats. To investigate more of the coast, you might want to check out Bude (half an hour) and its many surfing beaches. There’s more surf at Welcombe Mouth (20 minutes), along with a waterfall to seek out. Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall (five minutes) is another waterfall closer by, and with a nearly 50-metre drop, it’s bound to be pretty impressive. What of some particularly peaceful places, then? St Nectan Church (five minutes’ walk), named the Cathedral of North Devon, is one. Hartland Abbey (five minutes’ drive) or The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (20 minutes) are others. To get to wildlife-packed Lundy Island, visit Bideford Quay (half an hour). If it’s kid-friendly attractions and farm animals you’re after, The BIG Sheep (25 minutes) has all of that.
