Stoke Barton Farm Campsite: Main site

General

  • Grass pitches at a north Devon campsite facing the Atlantic coast
  • Five minutes’ drive to Hartland Abbey, and 15 minutes to Clovelly
  • Shop, information point and direct access to South West Coast Path

The folk who own Stoke Barton Farm Campsite know a thing or two about the area – they’ve farmed around this part of north Devon for generations and specifically at Stoke Barton for over 40 years. It’s also fair to say they know a thing or two about splendid family-friendly breaks – that’s what you get when you set down on these grass pitches facing the Atlantic coast.

There are coastal views across the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to kickstart the holiday vibes. The information shed – which is kitted out with kettles, microwaves, a freezer and power points – is also very handy for tending to your tummy, and only down the lane by the farmhouse.

An on-site shop (open from mid-May until the end of August) will take care of all your needs except alcohol (for that you’ll have to go to the pubs at Hartland – five minutes’ drive or a half-hour’s walk) – and that’s including fresh bread rolls for breakfast and your daily paper, as well as a few local crafts that make thoughtful gifts to take home.

Since Stoke Barton Farm Campsite is on a working livestock and arable farm, you’ll see sheep grazing in fields neighbouring the pitches. There are 12 acres across the site in total, including plenty of space between pitches so you’ll never feel crowded.

It’s wonderfully family friendly too, with handy facilities that include a football pitch where kids can let off steam, charging for devices (that’ll keep the teens quiet) and a launderette to keep everyone looking their best.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, Sunday 30 October 2022.

The grocery shop is open between 27/05 and 05/09.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

What an amazing campsite - wish we could have stayed longer! Check in was easy and we felt so welcome by Kerry and Clare, we opted to stay in one of the pixie huts and they kindly showed us up to our pitch for the night - we were able to park right next to it and it was only a short walk to the nearest facilities.
Clean, spacious toilet blocks with music playing which I loved! Ample showers by reception, on your way past there is an information area - what a lovely surprise! Lovely inside area with sofas, maps of the local area with ideas for walks and a freezer where you can put your ice packs overnight. The pixie hut was so comfortable and cosy with a proper double bed and cute fairy lights, just what I needed after a long walk along the coastal path! We had a sheltered bench area with a firepit and logs provided - very instagramable! The best part was the amazing shop!! Everything has been thought of - postcards, snacks, camping food and there was also lots of local produce (handy as the nearest ”supermarket” is a fair drive away) - much better so support the local community!
Thank you Kerry and Clare for looking after us, can’t wait to come back again soon! 🤩

The glorious views, a great range of pitches to choose from, the shop on site and the dazzling aerial displays by the swifts.
Although no Wi-Fi available on the site itself, we found this to be a benefit and was available in the shop.

We loved how quiet the site was. We had an amazing view out over the sea and could sit outside the van and watch the sunset.

    Disliked:

Only dislike we had was that the hook ups were spaced out quite a bit so if you didn’t have a long cable it could have been a problem.

Absolutely everything …….. what a gem of a place and the owners have thought of everything. We were made to feel so welcome by Kerry and requested a quiet spot with good views. Well, we were not disappointed in any way! We got what we asked for and more. Never stayed in such a well thought out and run site. Every little touch is thought out for the camper, to help your stay be as comfortable as possible. The site is spotless. Clean showers, toilets and even the bin / recycling area is well organised. the little shop is so well stocked and so reasonably priced. Certainly matches supermarket prices on a lot of items. We didn’t realise there was even a freezer full of ice that could be purchased until our penultimate day. You only need being alcoholic drinks, everything else is available in the shop. We will find it difficult to find anywhere that could top this place. Our photos say it all. We have never returned to a campsite for the second time as we like to try different places. However, there is always a first time and this place will be it. Superbly stunning in every sense. Thank you Kerry & Co for your outstanding hospitality.

Local attractions

How to begin your break in north Devon? With a long jaunt across the South West Coast Path, which can be accessed directly from site? More clifftop walks around Hartland Quay (five minutes’ drive), followed by a tasty pub meal? Clovelly (15 minutes) is another splendid seaside scene with cobbled slopes and a row of small fishing boats.

To investigate more of the coast, you might want to check out Bude (half an hour) and its many surfing beaches. There’s more surf at Welcombe Mouth Beach (20 minutes) and hunt down Welcome Mouth’s waterfall. Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall (five minutes) is another waterfall closer by, and with a nearly 50-metre drop, it’s bound to be pretty impressive.

What of some particularly peaceful places, then? St Nectan Church (five minutes’ walk), named the Cathedral of North Devon, is one. Hartland Abbey (five minutes’ drive), The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (20 minutes) are others.

To get to wildlife-heavy Lundy Island, visit Bideford Quay (half an hour). If it’s kids-friendly attractions and farm animals you’d rather get stuck into, The BIG Sheep (25 minutes) has all of that.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (16.8 miles)
  • Tintagel Castle (24.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Lundy (13.4 miles)
  • Tintagel Old Post Office (25.1 miles)
