  • Family-friendly north Devon holiday park with lots of activities
  • Under two miles from Woolacombe; Combe Martin 15 minutes
  • Surf machines, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, bowling and sauna
Join the thousands of sheep that flock to Woolacombe for the annual ovine hairdressing championships, with a trip to the green and pleasant gardens of the Golden Coast Leisure Park. Visitors have access to masses of activities on site, from the pumped up (cycling, tennis, water flumes, four indoor and outdoor swimming pools), to the more leisurely (bowling, fishing, pitch and putt, sauna and solarium). Although there’s no shortage of mod cons, the site retains an old-school charm, not least thanks to its Old Mill Inn, which has been keeping people fed and watered since the seventeenth century. In the evenings, guests can chill out and enjoy the valley views, grab a pint in the sports bar, or enjoy entertainment including game shows, family discos, tribute bands, comedians and illusionists. 'Messy mayhem' is promised at the various kids’ clubs for all age groups, and the little sprouts should have a fine time on the bungee trampoline and climbing wall; parents can confirm that their offspring actually do walk on water as they take to the inflatable human hamster balls in the pool, or show off their board skills on the Wavesurfer artificial surf machine. For a pit stop, try creating a family heirloom over a cuppa at the ceramic-painting café.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Well situated

Disliked Pitches for caravans and tents bunged randomly in the middle of a road area, unclear signage (starting from the reception sign), fairly noisy in the centre, good if you enjoy the smell of weed from other pitches. I know it's busy times in August but the site was far from full but venues weren't big enough for the people in them, booking activities wasn't made to clear what was or wasn't

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location of the pitch, the toilets and showers were close by. Toilets always had toilet roll. Great on site entertainment, kids loved swimming and the arcade. Lovely football field. Staff were lovely, especially the staff on reception and first aider that helped when my son had a bump to the head. GM was also lovely who spoke to me after seeing the bandage on my son's head.

Disliked Not all of the toilet doors locked, took multiple attempts to flush a toilet, had to keep hold of the button to work the shower.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The park was fantastic, we had a tent, the pitch was perfect apart from the electric not working however I didnt mention anything as we had battery packs etc. The park was clean with plenty for the kids to do. The pools are fantastic and the SPAR shop had everything you need and more. We had 3 very happy children. Food onsite was amazing and the entertainment was great too. All round a 10/10

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Activities for the children and a good sized pitch.

Disliked Our pitch had not been checked from the last visitors. We had 3 x bottles left by the tap which looked like they contained urine, alongside lots of litter over the pitch. We asked at reception if someone could come and collect said items.
That evening no one had come to clear so I telephoned reception and was told someone had literally just picked the job up of the board and would be there soon. Nobody ever arrived! The next day mid morning I telephoned yet again informing the rubbish was still with us. I found this unacceptable that I had to ask three times over two days for it to be collected. I had picked up the majority of rubbish myself but did not wish to touch the bottles due to their possible contents without gloves.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked The pools and facilities were great they had everything for the whole family

Disliked Disorganization of the pitches.
Our Initial pitch was scattered with rubbish and right on the road it then took lots of visits to reception to find another one that wasn’t already occupied

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Stayed for a week here- fantastic facilities, so much to do for kids of all ages, close to lots of beaches, shops etc.
Owners and reception staff went above and beyond for my family - I have a disabled 6 year old- they moved our pitch closer to the toilet facilities etc. Leant my son an Allen key where his breaks broke on his bike- re arranged our high ropes when I mixed up my days and missed our booking- honestly I could not fault the staff.

Disliked I feel the site could be more accessible to disabled guests- clear signage for ramp access areas etc (would have saved me carrying a heavy wheelchair with a 6 year old down about 4 sets of stairs to get to the swimming pool on the first day!) Also- why are there accessible toilets next to the bowling alley - but no disabled access down to it? Again- not accessible and a nightmare carrying the wheelchair and child down flights of stairs!
The touring areas would also benefit from having tarmac placed on the actual “road” part as pushing a manual wheelchair along the gravel up hill especially is an absolute nightmare- I have grown some serious muscles this week!

I also think there should be a cut off time for playing music and being loud- I want to have fun as much as anyone else but we had 2 big families opposite who kept us awake untill 2:30am one night!

The toilet block next to pitch 47a could do with a revamp and I think the cubicles with sinks in should definitely be fitted with blue roll or hand dryers- not nice not being able to dry your hands once you’ve washed them.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The Wave Machine
The evening entertainment.

Disliked Really poor pitches for camping, tiny area plonked behind the laundrette, all the tents are basically on top of each other.
Shower block, run down and not child friendly.
Bar/Breakfast Staff, rude and make you feel like a bother to them.

Local attractions

Venture out and you’ll find loads to see and do in this part of North Devon. Clamber down the steep cobbledy streets to the fishing boats at the fourteenth-century quay in Clovelly (50 minutes' drive), or pay a visit to Barnstaple Pannier Market (25 minutes) to browse the local foodstuffs, arts and crafts, and antiques. Watermouth Castle (15 minutes) has dungeon labyrinths and a gnome land (anyone who thinks this sounds like the stuff of nightmares will be pacified by the dreamy views…). Nature lovers might enjoy an outing to the wilderness of Exmoor National Park to spot wild deer and ponies, choosing spots like the ruggedly gorgeous Valley of Rocks (35 minutes) for wild goats and fossil hunting. For other days out, the kids can come face-to-leg with scarily lifelike dinosaurs and go swimming with sea lions at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), or just get spaced out by the rides at The Milky Way Adventure Park (45 minutes).
