  • Simple grass pitches at a South Hams farm with easy main road access
  • Dartmoor walks, Dartmouth and several sandy beaches 20 minutes' drive
  • Village shop 10 minutes' walk; five minutes' drive to a farm shop/café
If simple facilities and stunning views are on your wishlist for a break in the South Hams, have a look at Hollystone Holidays, a peaceful rural site that’s part of a family-run farm about half a mile from the village of Harbertonford (putting a well-stocked community shop just 10 minutes’ walk away). There’s splendidly easy access to this site from the A381, but once you’re settled in it’s very much rural views all around – pitches look out over lush green hilly farmland towards the landscapes of Dartmoor National Park beyond, and your neighbours in the next-door fields are the sheep and Hereford cattle that are lucky enough to live here all year round. It’s a traditional stripped-back setup on site, with plenty of space for kids to scamper about and dogs welcome too (as long as they’re kept on a lead around the site). Portable toilets, heated shower facilities and a washing-up area are all on hand, and you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue to cook up your meals. An award-winning farm shop (with café) five minutes’ drive away is the place to pick up bits for the grill, with more shops 10 minutes’ drive away in Totnes. Having easy access to the main road is a real bonus for getting out and about to explore the area – you’ll be well placed here for all sorts of days out, including Dartmoor walks, animal attractions and beach days at a good number of nearby sandy stretches.

What customers say

This is a welcoming, peaceful campsite with beautiful rural views and spacious pitches. Guests praise the clean, well-maintained facilities, including showers and washing-up areas. Thoughtful touches like an honesty shop and children's games are appreciated. While portaloos were initially a concern for some, the managers are planning to install composting toilets. Minor issues mentioned include occasional sheep droppings in the field and noise from nearby animals. Overall, visitors found it excellent value and intend to return.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Excellent camp site with very clean (nice smelling!) portaloos (soon to be compost loo’s apparently 🙂) a gorgoeus washing up area with natural wood and beautiful bunting and gorgoeus flowers - all these little extra touches made a huge difference for me. Brand new facilities also included hot showers which was so welcome! Lots of kids toys available inc a brand new Wendy house my kids loved. Very friendly and kind owners who we met and my kids played with their kids - very great stay. Would def come again!

Disliked Nothing!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Easy to find, lovely location. Large open field and pitch where you want. Two clean portaloos that were absolutely fine - the lights for night use were very handy. Two clean showers - although if skmeone is washing up then they run only cold! In the showers maybe a small swing top bin and a stool for sitting on to dry feet would be handy. Kitchen area with mirror is great idea, with the honesty box for a few items.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind feedback and suggestions, we have plans to change the plumbing to improve the water pressure for next seasons which should sort the issue of the showers going cold

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Peaceful field with lovely rural views. Can pitch where you like which is nice. Not busy and pretty much left alone. Nice little set up. Love the trough sinks and the shower set up is very smart. Portaloos were spotlessly clean.

Liked Very clean facilities

Disliked Toilet is small (it’s a portaloo), maybe a sheltered area would be nice for when it rains :)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind feedback, we have plans to improve the toilets, building our own for next season, a shelter has also been on our minds as a possibility in the future, more to escape the sun after the heat wave this summer but should work for rain too.

Good for a night away and cheap.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked - Space to pick where we wanted to go

- Wash area

- Showers looked nice

Disliked - Portaloo, absolutely stank when flushed.

- If you're a light sleeper, there are loud cows and sheep in nearby fields as well as almost constantly barking dogs in a house over the field.

From the manager: Thankyou for your feedback.
The portaloos are an issue we are aware of, unfortunately we have been very disappointed with the company we hired them from who have not serviced them anywhere near as frequently as we paid/ agreed them too. Your visit unfortunately fell just before they finally came to service them.
We are now planning for our own compostable toilets for the future.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Very peaceful, there was only myself and another family in the whole field. You could see that the owners really take pride in their site. It was spotlessly clean and very well maintained. It was also easily accessible - no crazy lanes to navigate, yet it felt remote as it's surrounded by more fields.

Liked We went away as 2 families, 3 children under 3 and a dog, we had a fantastic night away! The field is so peaceful and there was plenty of room between everyone. The facilities are wonderful and a lot of thought has gone into the little touches, games out for the kids (and adults) air fresheners in the toilets and a little honestly shop. We are local and just wanted an easy night away and we will definitely make this a regular stop.

Disliked It genuinely wasn’t an issue but may be to some people, the field must have sheep in at some point and so there was quite a lot of excrement throughout the field. But we found an area with very little and it was no problem at all
