Beautiful well run site, right on the Moors! 24/07/2017

The location was perfect for walking on Dartmoor and a good base camp for sightseeing Devon/Cornwall. The facilities were very good plenty of space in each cubicle with excellent mindfulness on environmental conservation . The site is beautiful with information boards relating to the wildlife, flora and fauna. The staff were some of the friendliest and welcoming people we have met during our many years of camping. We used the onsite bar and restaurant and enjoyed our meal and again the staff were excellent. The washing and washing up facilities were so nice and the polite notices to leave things tidy seem to work. Tavistock is a beautiful town with independent shops and a fantastic craft market. We had a really good week, well done team Langstone Manor!

    Disliked:

The facilities are very clean and modern however with a group of Duke of Edinburgh students and during busy times the three toilets and three showers one with a toilet and sink, might mean a bit of a wait.
Also the opening times for the shop and restaurant are very limited although the staff would come to your assistance if you rang the bell. During bad weather it would have been perfect if the restaurant had opened for cream teas or coffees but it only opened at 7pm and last meal orders were 8pm. Also the size of the pitches vary so if you have specific needs ask at the time of booking.
Wouldn't stop us visiting again if we were in the area.

  • Liked:

Location on moor's edge with easy walk for my 6 year old up various tors (excellent for bouldering); small and peaceful but with enough kids for my son to make new friends every day; bar & evening meals in case camp food gets tedious, shower block warm and spotless with no queues; and, most importantly from the son's perspective, warm pain au chocolat every morning from the camp shop (he even offered to go and get them!)

    Disliked:

Nothing; honestly, nothing. First time camping with my son, and we both want to go back asap. Excellent.

Good clean facilities, very friendly helpful staff, clubhouse. Had a very good meal.

    Disliked:

Pitches are too small and cramped. Our pitch was 9mx7m, tent takes up 30m2. Car parked next too tent, doesn't leave much space.Had a young family next to our pitch. Young children running around whilst cooking on a BBQ is not fun.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review, we are sorry that you found your pitch too small - all our pitches vary in size and we do try to allocate appropriate pitches for everyone. The May Bank Holiday weekend is our busiest weekend so I know you have said you wouldn't visit us again but if you change your mind then we will make sure you have a bigger pitch next time!

Directions

From Tavistock, take the B3357 road to Princetown/Two Bridges. After approximately two miles, look for a right-hand turn at a white cottage, and follow our brown tourist signs. Follow the lane and you will shortly go over a cattle grid - up the hill, turn left at the sign and again left at the next junction. We are along the laneway on the right-hand side. Go over our cattle grid and follow the road to the right up the hill to a stop sign.

Do not use satnav if you are towing or in a large vehicle!

Local attractions

Holidaymakers can amble or pedal straight onto the moors from here, and it only takes a few minutes to scramble to the summit of Pew Tor, which enjoys views for miles around.

As well as the wealth of hiking and biking routes in the area, there are centres for horse riding, canoeing and climbing on Dartmoor, to help visitors make the most of the spectacular landscapes. If you’re feeling brave, you can even go wild swimming...although you may prefer to hop over the border to Cornwall’s beautiful beaches to go swimming or surfing.

Ten minutes from Langstone Manor is the market town of Tavistock, where there are regular farmers markets, a cinema and an indoor swimming pool (with water slides and children’s pool).

For National Trustees, the imposing granite crenellations of Castle Drogo are worth a visit; this Lutyens-designed castle was the last ever built in England, and has lovely gardens and a picturesque outlook over the Teign Gorge. The dramatic waterfalls and ancient woodlands of Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in the South West) are not to be missed either, as long as you don’t mind a bit of strenuous walking, or getting your feet wet.

Rainy day suggestions include Plymouth, home to the UK’s biggest aquarium, or an exit to Exeter, a charming cathedral city bristling with shops and things to do.

Must see

  • Dartmoor Zoological Park (10.2 miles)
  • National Marine Aquarium (12.5 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Buckland Abbey (4.9 miles)
  • Lydford Gorge (6.8 miles)
