Site is wonderful. Well laid out with lots of space and wildlife around. The toilets and showers are the best I’ve seen on a campsite. Immaculately clean and warm. The owners were super friendly and knowledgeable. I don’t think you could get a better location on Dartmoor.
Extra points for the freshly baked bread and pastries that are available in the morning.

What a surprise! Right on the edge of Dartmoor and …15/09/2022

What a surprise! Right on the edge of Dartmoor and a hidden gem. The site is large but doesn't look it. The glamping pods are discrete and secluded and the static vans are likewise not over emphasised. Office is open late and they even have a restaurant.

We stayed on a grass pitch with optional hookup. Facilities were very well maintained and the Site Team are very welcoming and friendly.

Access is via narrow, but not scarey, tarmac roads but don't follow Google from the A30 south; instead read the directions on their website. Google Maps doesn't seem to care about the width of your vehicle. Our Ducatto SatNav has a Goods Vehicle setting which stops you going on very small routes unless you are stuck but does have the disadvantage of always thinking we are speeding.

One final comment. There is a resonable Vodafone 4G signal !!!!!!!!! WiFi is also available but at a charge but fair enough. They have multiple transmitters around the site to maintain.

    Disliked:

Some of the hills are very steep on a bike. But then it is Dartmoor!

Directions

From Tavistock, take the B3357 road to Princetown/Two Bridges. After approximately two miles, look for a right-hand turn at a white cottage, and follow brown tourist signs for the site. Follow the lane and you will shortly go over a cattle grid - up the hill, turn left at the sign and again left at the next junction. The site is along the laneway on the right-hand side. Go over the cattle grid and follow the road right up the hill to a stop sign.

Do not use satnav if you are towing or in a large vehicle.

Local attractions

Holidaymakers can amble or pedal straight onto the moors from here, and it only takes a few minutes to scramble to the summit of Pew Tor for views for miles around.

As well as the wealth of hiking and biking routes in the area, there are centres for horse riding, canoeing and climbing on Dartmoor, to help visitors make the most of the spectacular landscapes. If you’re feeling brave, you can even go wild swimming... although you may prefer to nip over the border to Cornwall’s beaches to go swimming or surfing.

A 10-minute drive from Langstone Manor is the market town of Tavistock, where there are regular farmers' markets, a cinema and an indoor swimming pool (with waterslides and kids' pool).

For National Trustees, the granite crenellations of Castle Drogo are worth a visit; this Lutyens-designed castle was the last ever built in England, and has lovely gardens and a scenic outlook over the Teign Gorge. The dramatic waterfalls and ancient woodlands of Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in the south west) are not to be missed either, as long as you don’t mind a bit of strenuous walking, or getting your feet wet.

Rainy day suggestions include Plymouth, home to the UK’s biggest aquarium, or an exit to Exeter, a cathedral city bristling with shops and things to do.

Must see

  • Dartmoor Zoological Park (16.4 kilometres)
  • National Marine Aquarium (20.1 kilometres)
  • Buckfast Abbey (22.6 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Buckland Abbey (7.9 kilometres)
  • Lydford Gorge (11.0 kilometres)
