  • Wild camping on a family-run hill farm in Dartmoor National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to The Granite Way; wild swimming pool very close by
  • Firewood provided for firepits and barbecues; pub and shop nearby
Diving into Dartmoor National Park for cycling-ready trails or hikes in the craggy tors? Elvan Farm Campsite will open the doors nicely, as this wild camping site belongs to a traditional family-run farm in the hills of the national park with some dazzling sunsets, scenery and plenty of space to find a peaceful spot to settle in and unwind. Once you’re all set up, you’ll want to weigh up your options. Will it be a hike up into the hills directly from the site? Wild swimming in Shilley Pool, just five minutes’ walk away? Perhaps a casual stroll into one of the local villages to call into one of the traditional country pubs? Onto one of the cycling trails within 15 minutes' drive of the site? The local village has just the spot, five minutes’ drive away, as there’s a café, pub and shop with the essentials, including fresh fruit and veg. For somewhere a little bigger and buzzier, Okehampton has shops and supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away where you'll be able to source more specific food items. On site, you’ll have firewood already sorted for you, ready for a small firepit or barbecue. In the way of other facilities, you’ll also have access to toilets.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Nice and quiet location at the base of the moors. Brilliant scenery and lots of animals.

Disliked: Toilets were not cleaned during the three day stay. No person checked us in or came around to check who was on site.

From the manager: Hi Scott, I'm very sorry to read your feedback. Myself and my partner, both popped over on numerous occasions to welcome and check that all was OK but we must have missed you. The toilets and shower were cleaned each day, on occasions, twice a day and logs were topped up as requested by other guests. The campsite was especially busy that weekend, but I try my best to ensure the toilets are left clean but can not have complete control, throughout the whole day. I apologise for any inconvenience. Kind regards Hayley

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: We loved every minute of our weekend here! Such a beautiful spot, surrounded by nature and very peaceful. The host Hayley was very helpful, she gave us directions before we arrived and answered any queries quickly. The site is minutes away from walks straight onto Dartmoor and the lush Shilley pool for wild swimming. The camp site had water, clean toilets, a shower and some electric hook up pitches. Wood kindling was available for camp fires and also fresh eggs and treats. Just perfect! We will definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely amazing place to camp, the nearby wild swimming spot is incredible. The on site toilets were clean, and the hot shower was a bonus!! The owners were great as well, couldn't have done anything else to make us more welcome, firewood provided for free, and fresh bottled water available at anytime! We will definitely be going again!!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The weather was not on our side for our stay, but this beautifully located campsite was. We loved it here so much. It was wonderful to have the moors as our backdrop. We were wild and free for the weekend! The owners are lovely and very welcoming. The site was quiet and well kept. If you love hiking this campsite is perfect for exploring the moors. Great for those who enjoy wild swimming. Okehampton is a short drive away and interesting to visit. Our teens enjoy geocaching and there were plenty of those to find in the area, and importantly for us we were able to have our own campfire.

Disliked: The portal loo and the fact that we had to bring bottled water. We’d prefer compost toilets and a drinking water tap would help us avoid buying plastic bottled water next time!
