The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm: Outdoor seating area

General

  • Glamping pods on a peaceful organic farm a mile from Stokeinteignhead
  • A mile from a sandy beach and the South West Coast Path
  • Firepit, kitchenette and private bathroom for each pod

Cosy pods in a peaceful spot among the cobnut trees and looking out to an organic apple orchard… it’s quite possible you’ll want to nest at The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm for some time...

Grab a perch at this family-friendly site in the south Devon countryside, 15 minutes from Newton Abbot, and you’ll be in for a comfy break without having to cart a load of kit around. Each of the dens has comfy beds (you just need to bring your sleeping bags and pillows), heating and electrical supply; a short trot takes you to your own personal lockable amenities area with toilet, shower and a little kitchenette (kettle, microwave and fridge – perfect for sorting brekkie).

A few lungfuls of fresh air may well tempt you out into the open for meals, so you’ve also got picnic benches, firepits and barbecues provided to keep you fed and toasty while you take in the rural views, the sunset or the starry skies. If the weather doesn’t approve such such antics, take refuge in the local pub, a mile away in pretty Stokeinteignhead.

Free-range folks will find plenty of roaming to be done in the area: Maidencombe beach and the South West Coast Path are a mile away and Torquay’s a 15-minute drive away. Exeter, Dartmoor National Park and Paignton Zoo are within 45 minutes.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

We had never visited Devon previously and as always very curious when booking a new destination.
We chose Orchard Organic Farm from previous reviews, ethos and of course the location, being close to Torquay but definitely in the countryside, preferring quiet locations to large camping sites.
When we booked we saw there were a few options for campervan camping so were a little concerned that this may be a large site and seeing only 2 pitches were left available on site we proceeded cautiously. Our anxiety was completely alleviated upon arrival where we discovered that from the 3 pitch locations selectable on the booking form that it actually meant just 1 per location! Yep just 3 on the site in total! Absolutely perfect. Not only that but the pitches were located in an apple orchard so separated by trees. There was power available in each.
The amenities were absolutely perfect. Clean loo and an excellent gas powered shower, voluminous and hot.
There is a communal kitchen area with sink, microwave, kettle and washing machine with bio-friendly washing products available for a small donation. Clearly marked recycling bins are a nice touch.
Communal benches and even a fire pit.
We had a very peaceful night and a beautiful awakening in what felt like our own private orchard.
We will definitely be going again.

Nice location nestled within the orchard trees. Plenty of facilities which are also clean and well stocked. Communal area was a surprise plus!

Pitches at slight incline but able to park so head was slightly higher, so not an issue.

Quiet setting and amazing to have own toilet/shower facilities. Hen hut was ideal for children that have never been camping before, had electricity and warmth but the excitement of camping was still there. Mud kitchen was a daily entertainment for the kids and was lovely to have a range of board games for them to play over the weekend. We woke up every morning and had to visit the chickens and the horse opposite, weather was perfect and can not fault anything.

Only three glamping units on site in a gorgeous, peaceful orchard setting. Owners were really lovely-left you to enjoy your break but available if you had queries. Ideal if you want a quiet site as a base to explore the area. Brilliant addition is that each pod has its own private bathroom and kitchenette area. Use on a rota basis of the ‘Hen House’ games room area. Would absolutely visit again.

What an incredible little glamping site. Far exceeding my expectations (having quite often been left a little disappointed).
This site is in a beautiful area 10 mins walk to a little beach, with a cafe. You are also only 5 minutes walk to the SW Coastal Path, which was a stunning walk.
The pod (my son and I stayed in The Roost) was incredible. It was warm and extremely spacious. We hired a double and single bed as part of our package - which were so comfy and I am so glad I paid the extra (I am so done with airbeds!!). Even with two beds in the pod, there was still ample space.
There is a double socket and USB charging point. Two double glazed windows, and a proper front door, making it feel really cosy at night (I always take a really thick throw as hate being cold at night - did not need it, pod was so warm). There is heating should you need it.
A lovely seating area outside the pod and brick built cooking station, which was fab. Large umbrella, even big enough to sit under in the rain!
The private kitchen (with microwave, kettle and fridge) / shower room was an absolute joy. I loved having my own facilities, and the shower was amazing - hot and powerful!
You get your own washing up area too.
Set in an orchard it was a beautifully scenic spot. Honestly, can not think of a single bad point about this gorgeous little site.
    Thank you Jerry and Emma.....😊

Local attractions

Being a mere mile from the south Devon coast, you’ll no doubt be wanting to get down there, whatever flavour of seaside sojourn you favour. Get your boots to stride along the scenic South West Coast Path, or totter along to quiet Maidencombe beach, a mile away, for sandcastles and sea paddling.

No need to restrict yourselves to one beach though – there are plenty of gorgeous specimens along this stretch of coastline. Try Ness Cove (five minutes away by car) for fishing and rockpooling or Teignmouth (10 minutes) for traditional amusements along the pier and prom. Torquay’s Living Coasts animal park and Paignton Zoo are both within a 20-minute drive if you need a break from the beaches.

Active types may like to head north to Dartmoor National Park (45 minutes) for all sorts of walks and bike rides, plus horse riding, climbing, canoeing and wild swimming. Folks with more of an eye for history and culture will want to wend their way towards Exeter (half an hour) instead to take in the cathedral, museums and 600-year-old Powderham Castle.

  • Living Coasts (3.8 miles)
  • Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (6.6 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (11.3 miles)
