A peaceful spot among the cobnut trees and looking out to an organic apple orchard… it’s quite possible you’ll want to nest at The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm for some time… Grab a perch at this family-friendly site in the south Devon countryside, 15 minutes from Newton Abbot, and you’ll be in for a real rural break, at a farm that produces organic apples and veggies and is home to a flock of happy hens that peck their way around the place. A few lungfuls of fresh air may well tempt you out into the open for meals, so it's handy that there are picnic benches, firepits and barbecues provided to keep you fed and toasty while you take in the rural views, the sunset or the starry skies. If the weather doesn’t approve of such antics, take refuge in the local pub, a mile away in pretty Stokeinteignhead, or head into a covered cooking area that's got a fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Guests also have access to an outside tap and wetsuit rinsing area, and there's plenty of space for kids to play among the trees. Free-range folks will find plenty of roaming to be done in the area: Maidencombe beach and the South West Coast Path are a mile away and Torquay’s a 15-minute drive. Exeter and Dartmoor National Park are both within 35 minutes.

Liked Lovely clean site plenty of privet shower and w/c.
There’s a small shop onsite.
And a general kitchen aria with wash machines (although we wasn’t sure if they were for customers).

Disliked No space for awning it was very muddy due to the amount of rain we’ve had need to bring something to stand on to get boots of b4 you dirty you inside vehicle.

Liked A lovely quiet and small site with good amenities. The shower was great, perfect for warming up after a day out in the cold in January. I highly recommend this site. The campervan pitches were all in use at the weekend which is understandable as it is a wonderful site, I had the site to myself during the week. Book in early to ensure a spot, I will be as I will definitely use this site more.

Liked Stunning view, really quite, not far from Torquay and shops. Great costal walks. Small honesty shop on site, showers nice and warm and with radiators when you got out.

Liked Pitching up amongst the trees in the orchard, fabulous views, lovely little area with microwave, kettle, washing machine (only £2 for a wash, including soap powder!) friendly, helpful owner. Great walks to, and along the coast path.

Disliked The mud! Pitches are very narrow, (no room for an awning) sloping and with a tight turn to get in. I got completely stuck with wheels spinning and couldn't get up the slope to my pitch! Fortunately Jerry, the owner was on hand to rescue me, and let me spend the rest of my stay in the car park instead. This was after 2 weeks with no rain, so I dread to think what it's like in wet weather! Jerry said they have plans to level and widen the pitches this spring, so hopefully things will improve.

Liked All the facilities were great and well looked after. The little shop was perfect (and turned out to be much needed when we found we’d forgotten our tent pegs!). The communal space in the barn also came handy when there was an unpredicted thunder storm.

Liked Lovely site with clean toilet & shower rooms, fire pits, small shop, our pitch was nestled into an apple orchard & included electric hookup in the price. The owners were friendly & offered advice of where to walk - great walks & nice cafe at a nearby beach

Disliked Slightly sloped muddy pitch was very slippery & took 4 attempts to reverse onto (this did not detract from our enjoyment of the site)

Local attractions

Being a mere mile from the south Devon coast, you’ll no doubt be wanting to get down there, whatever flavour of seaside sojourn you favour. Get your boots to stride along the scenic South West Coast Path, or totter along to quiet Maidencombe beach, a mile away, for sandcastles and sea paddling. No need to restrict yourselves to one beach though – there are plenty of gorgeous specimens along this stretch of coastline. Try Ness Cove (five minutes away by car) for fishing and rockpooling or Teignmouth (10 minutes) for traditional amusements along the pier and prom. Babbacombe Model Village and Paignton Zoo Environmental Park are both within a 20-minute drive if you need a break from the beaches. Active types may like to head north to Dartmoor National Park (35 minutes) for all sorts of walks and bike rides, plus horse riding, climbing, canoeing and wild swimming. Folks with more of an eye for history and culture will want to wend their way towards Exeter (half an hour) instead to take in the cathedral, museums and 600-year-old Powderham Castle.
