I don't think the staff could have been more friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately while we were there a group of campers were a bit roudy. The staff were straight on the case and followed up complaints made by other campers.

The facilities were cleaned daily and cleanliness was to a high standard. Previous reviews say about the showers........ early in the morning the showers are cold but by about 8am the water was lovely and warm. If your planning on an early start my advice would be to run the hot tap in the toilet to check the water temperature before jumping in the shower. It is a communal shower but as it's not a big site I never had to share them with anyone.

The site is completely flat and has a lovely big open space for the children to play in My 2 loved the little play area and the skate park. The site has a very safe feel to it for children as you can still keep a watchful eye on them from wherever you pitch your tent. Also there is a car park for vehicles so this ilimanates any traffic.

The location of the sight is fantastic. It's a very short walk to the shops and pub but far enough away to be peaceful and tranquil. If your willing to drive 10-20mins from the site, the surrounding area offers lots of places to visit.

Clean facilities, friendly staff, close to village centre, lots of space 01/09/2016

There was loads of available space, which was great, allowing my partner and I, and the rest of our party the ability to set our tents up close together, and meant that noise wasn't an issue.
It was a great location, convenient walking distance to the centre of Moretonhampstead, and allowed us to kick off our hiking trails directly from the site.
The staff were friendly when we interacted with them, so that was good.

The other significant plus is that it's great value for money.

    Disliked:

The showers were a bit cold. We were told that you have to hold the tap down for about a minute or so for the hot water to start coming through, which did seem to work. Unfortunately we'd had a couple of showers already before hearing that advice, so perhaps it could be something that's mentioned to campers when they arrive.
The only other thing is potential security issues. The facilities all look publically accessible, which just meant we had to lock valuables in the car and lockers, which is fine, but was just a variable we needed to consider.

It was quiet. The staff were friendly. The facilities were clean and well maintained. There is a play park.

    Disliked:

That I felt like I was camping on a sports field. The showers were open plan and no screens or curtains. Only 1 sink (In the toilets) not great for washing yourself or brushing your teeth. The local restaurants were all fully booked.

Local attractions

We are a short distance from the village of Moretonhampstead where you will find plenty to see and do.

A short walk away there is a large outdoor swimming pool which is open through the summer months with plenty of sunbathing space. Next door you can find a fishery open all year round and its three lakes filled with trout.

New to the village is the Sparrowhawk art gallery where you can check out local artwork and learn more about the history of the area. The local area has plenty of scenic walks and cycle trails where you'll find spectacular views of the valley and the surrounding Dartmoor National Park.

Moretonhampstead has a range of great restaurants, tearooms, pubs and shops including an award-winning butcher. The town also has essential facilities such as a friendly information centre, a post office, a bank and a convenience store to ensure you have everything you need during your stay.

A little further out of town, with a regular bus service, you could venture out to the miniature pony centre where children get a chance to feed, ride and interact with many different animals.

If you prefer a more relaxing day out, the luxury spa hotel and sporting estate Bovey Castle is a short bus ride or drive away. Non-residents are welcome to use the leisure and spa facilities or book a round of golf.
