  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

The View fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked: The site was very clean. It was quite quiet and peaceful. It is very green and planned out well. The dog walking area is great.
The showers and toilets were spacious and clean.
Added bonus was the cocktail and food car. We wish we had known it was there on site because we would have used that instead of bringing our own food. Cocktails were fabulous!
WiFi is great and free.

Disliked: No plugs in the sinks if you wanted to have a wash.
No shelves in the showers to put shampoo on etc. showers on a push button system, which is fine, but they don't stay on long enough.

Bay View electric grass and gravel campervan, trailer tent or tent pitch

Liked: What a super campsite, now on my favourites list. The best staff ever who made the stay even better if that’s possible! Level spacious pitches. Spotlessly clean everywhere and with everything you need…..even a pop up van on site selling cocktails and the best burgers! Can’t wait for my next visit.

Disliked: Minor detail….showers although fab turn off after seconds. Unless it was just the one I used.

Rabbit Field electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Everything. This was our third visit (Rabbit Field pitches), and probably the best yet - the site just keeps getting better and better, and is becoming a firm favourite. Nearly two years since we last stayed, so in addition to the already excellent facilities, the dog exercise field is now fully grassed and well kept (hats off to the ground staff for that one alone!). Also, the Airstream burger/butty van is very welcome. Straight forward decent van grub, and well priced. Well done for that too.

Everything is where it should be, and everything works properly. I still think the automated door to the ablutions and pot wash is a masterstroke.

Disliked: Nothing

From the manager: Wow – thank you for such a fantastic review. It means so much to hear this was your best visit yet!⛺ We're over the moon that the site keeps hitting the mark for you 🙌 Huge kudos to our grounds team – they’ll be chuffed to hear the dog field got your seal of approval 🐾🌱 The Airstream food truck is definitely a fan favourite, and we’re so glad you enjoyed it too 🍔🚐
Thanks again for the kind words – we can’t wait to welcome you back for visit number four!

The View fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location, high quality maintenance of the park, friendly, helpful staff, spotless facilities, touring pitches are large and well spaced and the site is very peaceful. Loved seeing so many species of birds on the site. Freshly baked croissants were a treat.

Disliked: Staff had forgotten to renew the liquor license so no alcohol available in the shop. Website says there is a pub next to the site but it is an hotel, only serving guests. The view from our pitch on 'The View' only had glimpses of the sea between a caravan, camping pods and trees, although there are spectacular rural views. A pity the food van didn't open until the day we left.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for your detailed and thoughtful review 😊 We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, well-maintained grounds, spacious touring pitches, and our spotless facilities. It's also wonderful to know that the local birdlife and freshly baked croissants added a special touch to your stay 🐦🥐

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the liquor license issue and any confusion regarding the nearby pub 🍷 We also appreciate your feedback regarding the view from your pitch and the timing of the food van's availability — we understand how these aspects can impact your overall experience and will take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve 🌿

Thank you once again for staying with us. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future, and to provide an even better experience next time.

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
