  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Rabbit Field powered gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Welcomed by the very friendly staff
The facilities were very good although shower was only staying on for a few seconds at a time.
Everywhere was clean tidy and in very good working order, we would definitely return here again but would not choose the rabbit field as other pitches higher up would have a great view on a good day, as the weather was misty it didn't matter this trip.

Disliked Not a dislike but a slightly longer shower would be better

The View FHU grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Beautifully kept side, great location. Pitched not overlooked and great views.

Disliked Entrance directions. Sat nav takes you down a lane. Which has a notice to say not this way! But when towing it’s too late! Had to reverse and damaged back of my van on signpost. Needs a big ⛔️ NO ENTRY sign. I saw site name and assumed I was in the right place. Not a welcome start to my break.

The site is in a beautiful location, a short (but steep) walk to Lynton and Lynmouth.

Bay View powered grass and gravel campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very nice and well kept site in a nice position overlooking Lynton/Lynmouth.
Pitch was spot-on and with water / electrical hook up(s)
Good information on local walks and access to paths to coast .
Facilities and showers in lovely order and clean.
Reception held a small stock of 'essentials' and staff always welcoming and prepared to assist with information and suggestions.

Disliked Unfortunately as this was end of their season the on-site Airstream was closed for snacks ,which we probably would have used if it had been available.

The View FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked We are new this year to owning a campervan and have so far only visited 6 campsites, however we were most impressed with the facilities and the layout of this campsite. It is beautifully situated near both Lynton and Lynmouth and the site is well kept and maintained. Staff are friendly and the toilets/showers are kept well stocked and lovely and clean. We are both capable walkers and although the walks to The Valley of the Rocks and Watersmeet are challenging we thoroughly enjoyed them, but I would not recommend them for people who are only occasional walkers! We have already booked in another stay next year:)

Disliked The only thing my husband said was that when he wanted to have a shower around tea-time the water was cold in the showers.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely, detailed review! 😊 We're delighted to hear that, as new campervan owners, you were so impressed with our site 🏕️. It’s fantastic to know you enjoyed the layout, facilities 🚿✨, and the beautiful surroundings near Lynton and Lynmouth 🌿🌊.

We're especially glad you made the most of the nearby walks — Valley of the Rocks and Watersmeet are definitely stunning (and a good workout too! 😅). Thanks also for your kind words about our team 🙌

We're sorry to hear the shower was cold during your husband's tea-time visit — we’ll definitely look into that to make sure everything’s running smoothly 🔧💧

So pleased to hear you've already booked for next year — we can't wait to welcome you back! 😄📆

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
