  • Peaceful farm pitches five minutes' drive from Kingsbridge
  • A 15-minute drive from Salcombe and the South West Coast Path
  • Back to basics pitches with lovely views towards Dartmoor
If you’ve ever pondered where your potatoes come from, here’s your chance to find out: the pitches at Warcombe Campsite are part of a family-run working farm in the gorgeous south Devon countryside, five minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge. Pitch up here at the right time of year (from July through to October) and you’ll get glimpses of the harvest in action: potatoes are grown (on 300 acres, no less), packed and stored on site, and guests can pick up a bag or few for future dinners. Not that all the action revolves around potatoes – the farm also grows cereal crops and has a herd of beef cows. The folk here work pretty hard, but luckily for guests it’s all about playtime in the pretty surrounds of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And that means lots of places to take local walks, get stuck into watersports or head down to the coast for beach days, walks on the coast path or time spent strolling around Salcombe (15 minutes’ drive away). Life on site is fairly relaxed too – pitches are in an open field with plenty of safe space for activities, and some fine views out over Dartmoor and Salcombe. There are no toilets or showers here, but a field tap has water available and there’s a waste disposal pit for those who need it. Pubs, takeaways and supermarkets are all within a five-minute drive for finding food and drinks, or you might like to pop into the local brewery (a mile away) for a few bottles.

Local attractions

Once you’ve eyed up the views from your pitch, it’s time to take a closer look. Start by donning your boots and heading out for a walk on one of trails in the surrounding South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Biking about is an equally fine idea; there’s e-bike hire nearby if you need it. The other top walking spot nearby is of course the South West Coast Path: any chunk is liable to present some stunning scenery, but for starters you might like to seek out the sections around South Milton Sands (15 minutes’ drive) and Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve (20 minutes). The beaches at Bantham and Bigbury-on-Sea (both about 20 minutes away) are worth a visit too, and of course you can’t come to these parts without dropping in to Salcombe (15 minutes) for watersports and seafood dinners. For a change of scenery, get an adrenaline fix on the rides at Woodlands Family Theme Park (15 minutes) or take a day trip to Plymouth (45 minutes) for the National Marine Aquarium, tours of the gin distillery and a stroll around Saltram Park.
