  • Small-scale family-run site with scenic Devon views
  • A 10-minute drive to Bigbury beach; 20 minutes to Salcombe
  • Pub and award-winning seafood restaurant within walking distance
You’ll have the seaside, the South West Coast Path and the whole of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at your disposal when you stay at Higher Easton Farm Campsite, a lovely little spot just outside Bigbury and about 15 minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge. This is a most handy location for exploring this stunning stretch of the Devon coastline: it’s a two-mile trip to Bigbury beach (for a surf school, kayak hire and instruction in the art of paddleboarding) and there are lots of other fine spots within a 20-minute drive, including Salcombe, Hope Cove and Bantham and Wonwell beaches. All of these are of course linked by the coast path for scenic hikes, and there are more trails half an hour’s drive away in Dartmoor. And the owners quite rightly note that it’s also a handy location for some great Devon eats: the award-winning Oyster Shack is a mile away, and there’s a great fish and chip shop on the seafront in Challaborough (two miles away). Closer to home, it’s a five-minute walk to the local pub or the well-stocked village store, where you can pick up picnic supplies or bits to go on your barbecue. As you’d imagine, there’s some fine scenery around here – and with far-reaching views from the site you can take in a fair amount without moving from your pitch. It’s worth staying awake past sunset too, as the stargazing tends to be pretty good on a clear night. Pitches at Higher Easton Farm are simple in style, but have access to showers and proper toilets.

What customers say

Higher Easton offers a peaceful, back-to-basics camping experience on a working farm, praised for its friendly and helpful owners. Visitors highlight the beautiful views, spacious pitches, and convenient location near beaches, pubs, and shops. Facilities are generally clean and functional, with free hot showers. While some found the site basic, most appreciated its quiet, rural charm and good value. Minor points raised include slightly dated facilities and uneven terrain in some areas.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Quiet and walkable distance to dog friendly pub and local shop plus lots of walks in the area. We did a circular walk that took in the estuary to Aveton Gifford and also a circular walk to Bigbury. This was achieved using a mixture of the lanes and the many footpaths in the area. Facilities were very clean and basic but all you need. Hazel and Stuart were very welcoming and their communication was very good . We had a lovely bank holiday weekend at a reasonable price and would recommend if you like peace and quiet whilst camping.

Disliked Nothing

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Locations was great for where we wanted to be, and some great views to be had. Friendly welcome. Easy walk to the pub.

Facilities are best described as rustic, old ‘converted’ chicken sheds but we knew what we were heading to from reviews and photos on pitch up.

Disliked Toilets were a little lacking on the privacy side. someone had even poked loo roll between the cracks in the boards in one cubicle, so your experience was less sharing with your neighbouring pooper.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Taking the time for leaving a review. We are glad you found a lot to like. I will personally sit on each of our 5 loos and try and see what you mean about the cracks because I have checked and there is no toilet paper stuffed anywhere!

Best wishes for the rest of your summer.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The owner Hazel and her husband were very pleasant and helpful. It was lovely to be able to sit it outside at night and take in the beautiful site of our night sky's.
Having not been camping for many years, it was all rather new for us.They made our experience so much better and lenti us their fire pit. The outdoor showers were an experience, but not one to be knocked. They were very warm and much needed after a day at the beach. Thank you Hazel hopefully we will see us again soon.

From the manager: Dear Tracey,
We look forward to you staying again. It was nice to see you having a good time especially as you were, at best apprehensive about a spending a week under canvas, when you arrived!
You had brilliant weather and our night sky certainly delivered for you, I was out myself just to take in that blanket of stars.

Best wishes to you, your brother and the rest of your family,

Hazel and Stuart.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location is great and so handy to be able to walk to the village shop and to the local pub and make regular trips to Bigbury. We loved how quiet it was and really enjoyed the showers, which although basic are fun to use and lovely and hot. Owners really friendly and helpful. Toilets kept clean and will supplied with loo roll even when it got quite busy over the bank holiday.

Disliked I did note that it was a working farm at the time of booking, but didn't realise what kind and perhaps overlooked it. I was a bit sad to see the calves in the sheds ... then not there. No aspersions at all on how they are kept but this might be helpful for other veggies!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Rachel,
Thank you for your review, we are pleased you had a great time. It was such a great atmosphere on the camp site over the bank holiday weekend wasn't it. I wish you had asked us about our farm whilst you were here, I would have happily explained what we do. The animals you saw in the sheds were taken to other farms where they have gone outside onto grass fields, these animals will be brought into sheds later in the autumn, where they will be bedded on straw and fed silage and a feed made mostly from barley. Next spring they will go out onto grass fields again. Once the animals leave this farm, we muck out the sheds, the muck goes onto land that grows vegetables and cereals (wheat, barley, oats) as it provides nutrients for the soil which in turn provides nutrients for the vegetables and cereals being grown. Stuart and I pressure wash and disinfect the sheds before the next animals come in. I hope that makes sense. If you are genuinely interested in learning more about what happens on livestock farms, there is an national annual event called Open Farm Sunday which aims to connect farmers and the public to discover the crucial work farmers do producing food, nurturing nature, and protecting the environment for future generations.

With best wishes to you all,

Hazel and Stuart.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Basic site but good location for Salcombe and Bigbury - spacious site but facilities can be a long way away - great views

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Annette,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We never grow tired of the views, especially how they change throughout the year. We purposely do not have designated pitches, which means it you want to camp closer to the facilities you can, many folks choose to be further way, as that is what they prefer, it is entirely up to you.

Best wishes to you both,
Hazel

Local attractions

If you’d like to dabble in some watersports, you’ve come to the right area – Bigbury (10 minutes’ drive) has a sheltered side and one with wilder waves so it’s a place where you can learn to surf or paddleboard your way across calmer waters. Rather stick to dry land? There’s a golf course in the village too. While you’re in Bigbury, take a trip over to Burgh Island, famed for its wildlife and its links to Agatha Christie. You can walk across the causeway at low tide, or take a ride on the sea tractor at other times. Elsewhere along the coast, make a stop in smart Salcombe (20 minutes) for a tour of Overbeck’s (National Trust) and a sip of the local gin, or venture to Dartmouth (35 minutes) to see its ancient castle and stroll around the harbour. For a family day out away from the beach, try Woodlands Family Theme Park (25 minutes), Dartmoor Zoo (half an hour) or the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth (40 minutes).
