  • Small-scale family-run site with scenic Devon views
  • A 10-minute drive to Bigbury beach; 20 minutes to Salcombe
  • Pub and award-winning seafood restaurant within walking distance
You’ll have the seaside, the South West Coast Path and the whole of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at your disposal when you stay at Higher Easton Farm Campsite, a lovely little spot just outside Bigbury and about 15 minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge. This is a most handy location for exploring this stunning stretch of the Devon coastline: it’s a two-mile trip to Bigbury beach (for a surf school, kayak hire and instruction in the art of paddleboarding) and there are lots of other fine spots within a 20-minute drive, including Salcombe, Hope Cove and Bantham and Wonwell beaches. All of these are of course linked by the coast path for scenic hikes, and there are more trails half an hour’s drive away in Dartmoor. And the owners quite rightly note that it’s also a handy location for some great Devon eats: the award-winning Oyster Shack is a mile away, and there’s a great fish and chip shop on the seafront in Challaborough (two miles away). Closer to home, it’s a five-minute walk to the local pub or the well-stocked village store, where you can pick up picnic supplies or bits to go on your barbecue. As you’d imagine, there’s some fine scenery around here – and with far-reaching views from the site you can take in a fair amount without moving from your pitch. It’s worth staying awake past sunset too, as the stargazing tends to be pretty good on a clear night. Pitches at Higher Easton Farm are simple in style, but have access to showers and proper toilets.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked A very simple but clean campsite, pretty much perfect for a weekend away. Perfectly located with the local pub and store within walking distance and also close enough but not too close to Bigbury on sea, meaning you have the beach a 7 min drive away but not the crowd.
Hazel was great in communication and very helpful.

How friendly the owners were, facilities were great! Great views and not busy…

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We had a lovely weekend escape at Higher Easton. We arrived on the Friday and were the only people on site meaning we were able to have the peaceful and undisturbed break we were looking for. Hazel was incredibly welcoming and friendly but also left us to our own devices which we appreciated. The farm is beautiful and it's lovely to walk past and see the calves on the way to and from the shower area. The showers and toilets are basic but clean and tidy, which is all we needed!

Disliked Nothing to report!

From the manager: Thank you for your review, it was great to read and you captured the essence of the campsite very well indeed. We look forward to seeing again sometime.

Best wishes for a lovely summer,

Hazel and Stuart.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Great directions to site, super friendly welcome and great communication during stay. Perfect location only 30 minutes drive to Plymouth and a few minutes from the beach. Plus only a short walk to the SWCP. Back to basics campsite on a working farm, but kept really clean and has free hot showers. Lovely big field to choose your own pitch. So peaceful, even on a bank holiday weekend with a village event on, I had lots of space and complete quiet around my pitch.

From the manager: Thank you for lovely review, which tells it as it is.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope you have many more adventures this summer.

Best wishes Hazel and Stuart.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Before arriving we had a text with clear instructions on what roads to take and what not to. On arrival we were met by Hazel with a friendly welcome chat, pointing out toilets and showers. Very simple but clean and perfectly adequate toilets and outdoor showers. A bit ‘wild west’ but showers were clean, warm and had enough space, light hooks and shelves. The view from the field would have been lovely had the weather been clearer but at least it wasn’t raining until we left. Plenty of space and park anywhere on the field. Hazel was so helpful with directions to the excellent Valley View cafe and farm shop where we had a nice cooked breakfast from excellent, friendly staff. Also visited the 13c Journey’s End pub nearby for excellent food and atmosphere. Kingsbridge worth a visit as is Salcombe. Again Hazel gave directions to avoid the many tight lanes.

Disliked Nothing really. Bit exposed when windy but nothing more than to be expected.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and thank you for sharing your experiences of the Valley View cafe and farm shop and the 13c Journey’s End pub, I missed you when you left so it is lovely to read the food was excellent at both places. It was a pleasure to have you stay and to have a chat with you.

Best wishes for your future camping trips,

Hazel

Liked A quiet campsite, with great views. No light pollution, so on a clear night we could see the Milky Way. Walking distance to local shop and pub. Friendly hosts.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad you enjoyed it here. We often look up at night and are amazed how many shooting stars we have seen over the years. We always recommend visitors bring a torch so that those who enjoy star gazing can do it with no light pollution.

All the best for your future camping trips,

Hazel

Local attractions

If you’d like to dabble in some watersports, you’ve come to the right area – Bigbury (10 minutes’ drive) has a sheltered side and one with wilder waves so it’s a place where you can learn to surf or paddleboard your way across calmer waters. Rather stick to dry land? There’s a golf course in the village too. While you’re in Bigbury, take a trip over to Burgh Island, famed for its wildlife and its links to Agatha Christie. You can walk across the causeway at low tide, or take a ride on the sea tractor at other times. Elsewhere along the coast, make a stop in smart Salcombe (20 minutes) for a tour of Overbeck’s (National Trust) and a sip of the local gin, or venture to Dartmouth (35 minutes) to see its ancient castle and stroll around the harbour. For a family day out away from the beach, try Woodlands Family Theme Park (25 minutes), Dartmoor Zoo (half an hour) or the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth (40 minutes).
