General

  • Farm park in Devon with sea views on three sides
  • Pitch where you like
  • Washing-up area, showers and loo block

Take your tent to Mullacott Farm for pitching up with sea views, in the coastal preservation area of north Devon, a mile from Ilfracombe, four miles from Woolavombe and ten from Exmoor...

Campers have sea views on three sides from the camping fields at this family-run farm, overlooking Woolacombe and Lundy Island to the west, Lee Bay and Ilfracombe to the north, and on a clear day the south coast of Wales; you'll be able to spy countryside landscape from your tent too.

Mullacott is a gently sloping and basic site, with simple but clean facilities including a washing-up area, showers and loo block about 100 metres from the camping field. Pitches are unmarked, so settle down where you fancy and get prepped to take in those three-sided Devon sea views.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

We had a whole field to ourself which was great. Very simple facilities but toilets and showers worked alright. If you want somewhere basic to stay, then it's good. Could take a dog :)

    Disliked:

We were far from the toilets and showers. Very basic but that was fine for us. Not really walking distance from anywhere.

stayed here on the 26th to the 28th of august and I loved the peacefulness and the stunning views. Staff were vey friendly the showers and toilets were clean and didn't smell. The kids found it amusing they had to walk to the toilets and showers as it was our first time camping lol. I would certainly stay here again.

After reading quite a lot of negative reviews we were a little worried about what the showers and toilets might be like.
If I'm perfectly honest they were both very good.
The biggest thing being that neither were smelly one of damp and two of urine. Admittedly they could do with modernising as they are dated farm buildings.
Yes it was a bit of a walk from the lower field, but we are both walkers so it really didn't bother us one bit.
I suggest people who moan about the distance get of their lazy bums. Exercise is good for you after all and it only took 5 minutes.
I will agree with the comments about the grass being a little long.
I think cutting it once at the beginning of August maybe isn't enough because the two top fields were kept short especially the caravan and camping club area maybe a little investment for a grass cutter would be a good purchase.
Overall we were pleased with the site and would (will) return in the future.
I also liked the fact it was £18 a night and this is for any size pitch.
No extras for children (if you have them) and we didn't have to pay extra for our dog which I can never understand why I have to pay extra.

The view, the peacefulness of the site and the space within the field. Stress free stay

    Disliked:

The walk to the toilets (about 10 mins from camping field) and the uncleanliness of the toilets and showers. Were told by owner that they are only as clean as the person before, which I agree with totally - but it is in serious need of a deep clean!

Nice campsite with good views and plenty of space. Nice welcome by the owners. Good value for money. Location is near to Ilfracombe, which is a short journey by car away.

    Disliked:

Though the toilet and shower blocks are generally clean, there are lots of spider / cobwebs around the walls, which can be off putting for children. Other than that there was nothing else to dislike.

We arrived on the Friday of Bank Holiday weekend so we basically had our pick of the top field. We had a great spot in the middle of the field with a lovely view across to the sea and across the hills. Great value too.

    Disliked:

The toilet facilities were very basic and one of the ladies showers was pretty terrible (intermittent hot and cold water). My husband said the mens' one he used was the same too. The other one I used was ok though and had consistent hot water. It would have been good to have an electrical point available for a hairdryer.

Pitch was fine the shower was hot and sufficient

    Disliked:

Toilets were dirty and showers were not cleaned. There was a towel under a wooden slatted board in one and I'm not surewhat under the other I don't think I wanted to know. We were there for 2 nights and they were not cleaned once I had to clean the shower before I used it

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry, but you are wrong. In August I clean the showers twice a day, when the camp site is busier.
I have to because people do not leave them clean , or rinse them after use, and the only way to have them spotless would be to clean after every visitor has used them. The towels under the duck board is to stop water running through the toilets, where guests will not put the shower curtain inside the shower tray, so it stops a slipping hazzard. These are old towels, and are changed daily.

    The facilities were fair

    Disliked:

    Only 2 gentlemans toilets
The grass was far too long/ wet feet

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We do cut the grass short at the beginning of August, but we are unable to after this because, as you know we allow people to pitch anywhere and the tractor cannot get between all of the tents in a tidy fashion.
I understand there were queues a couple of days for the toilets and showers, but this was for a short amount of time, at peak times but the majority of the time, even on busy days, there was no one in the facility. We will monitor this in the future.

Directions

From Junction 27 of the M5
Follow the A361 to Barnstaple. Continue on the A361, following the signs to Ilfracombe. Entering Ilfracombe from Mullacott Cross, then 300m from the roundabout turn left at the brown tourist sign saying Mullacott Riding Stables and Mullacott Farm Camping Barn. After leaving the road, drive through the two white pillars with horses' heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, depending on whether you are towing.

Directions from the Tourist Information Centre
Turn right out of the car park to the second set of lights; turn right again, then drive straight on into St Brannocks Road. Drive past the layby on the right-hand side then take the next turning right up the hill after the brown tourist sign, pointing to Mullacott Farm Camping Barn and Mullacott Riding Stables. Once off the road drive through the two white pillars with horses' heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, depending on whether you are towing.

Keeping to the right-hand side of the paddock, come up to the farmhouse (the building on the right-hand side).

Local attractions

It shouldn't surprise those who know a bit about north Devon that the setting of Mullacott Farm is handy to days (weeks) of things to do for all ages, abilities, tastes and budgets.

One of Devon's most popular beaches, Ilfracombe, is only a mile away and has a Victorian town attached with a working harbour where fish can be bought from the quayside (and yes, Mullacott Farm allows barbecues). Several walks start from around here, including Capstone Hill, Hillsborough and the Torrs.

Woolacombe, four miles away, is a surfing hotspot and popular family beach; it's surrounded by National Trust land and has miles of coastal walks and cracking scenery.

The biggest nearby town is Barnstaple, 13 miles from base and with the nearest train station to the farm as well as the famed Pannier Market; the team also recommends a wander around the market town and weekly livestock market of South Molton.

Exmoor is about ten miles to the east and the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth just beyond, with the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway and walks along the flood site of 1952, the Valley of the Rocks, and the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (16.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (6.9 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (8.9 miles)
