General

  • Farm park in Devon with sea views on three sides: pitch where you like
  • A mile from Ilfracombe, four from Woolacombe and 10 from Exmoor
  • Washing-up area, showers and toilet block

Take your tent to Mullacott Farm for pitching up with sea views, in the coastal preservation area of north Devon, a mile from Ilfracombe, four miles from Woolacombe and 10 from Exmoor...

Guests have sea views on three sides from the camping fields at this family-run farm, overlooking Woolacombe and Lundy Island to the west, Lee Bay and Ilfracombe to the north, and on a clear day the south coast of Wales; you'll be able to spy countryside landscape from your tent too.

Mullacott is a gently sloping and basic site, with simple but clean facilities including a washing-up area, showers and toilets 100 metres from the camping field. Pitches are unmarked, so settle down wherever you fancy and get prepped to take in those three-sided Devon sea views.

Met on arrival very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Electric showers a real bonus so no matter what time you went to shower there was always hot water. Big shower for family great for us with two under 5. Have waited longer to be served in a pub than I did for a shower at Mullacott.

Drinking water taps in every field. Lots of clean toilets, although due to COVID washing up station closed but it was not a problem due to such easy access to water.

Thought was given to where we were put as a family so we were flat an electric hook up was still available.

The animals on the farm were a real plus for the grandkids including the Alpacas.

The charges were excellent being per person for camping which is great.

    We will definitely be back.

Directions

From Junction 27 of the M5
Follow the A361 to Barnstaple. Continue on the A361, following the signs to Ilfracombe. Entering Ilfracombe from Mullacott Cross, then 300m from the roundabout turn left at the brown tourist sign saying Mullacott Riding Stables and Mullacott Farm Camping Barn. After leaving the road, drive through the two white pillars with horses' heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, depending on whether you are towing.

Directions from the Tourist Information Centre
Turn right out of the car park to the second set of lights; turn right again, then drive straight on into St Brannocks Road. Drive past the layby on the right-hand side then take the next turning right up the hill after the brown tourist sign, pointing to Mullacott Farm Camping Barn and Mullacott Riding Stables. Once off the road drive through the two white pillars with horses' heads on and take the first turning right. Follow the signs, depending on whether you are towing.

Keeping to the right-hand side of the paddock, come up to the farmhouse (the building on the right-hand side).

Local attractions

It shouldn't surprise those who know a bit about north Devon that the setting of Mullacott Farm is handy to days (weeks) of things to do for all ages, abilities, tastes and budgets.

One of Devon's most popular beaches, Ilfracombe, is only a mile away and has a Victorian town attached with a working harbour where fish can be bought from the quayside (and yes, Mullacott Farm allows barbecues). Several walks start from around here, including Capstone Hill, Hillsborough and the Torrs.

Woolacombe, four miles away, is a surfing hotspot and popular family beach; it's surrounded by National Trust land and has miles of coastal walks and cracking scenery.

The biggest nearby town is Barnstaple, 13 miles from base and with the nearest train station to the farm as well as the famed Pannier Market; the team also recommends a wander around the market town and weekly livestock market of South Molton.

Exmoor is about 10 miles to the east and the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth just beyond, with the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway and walks along the flood site of 1952, the Valley of the Rocks, and the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (27.1 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (11.1 kilometres)
  • Heddon Valley (14.3 kilometres)
