Luxury tents within a large, picturesque field

General

  • Quiet, family-run glamping site on a working dairy farm in north Devon
  • Private shower, toilet and cooking facilities for each bell tent
  • Three miles from Ilfracombe and a 10-minute drive to Woolacombe

North Devon, a farm, and luxury bell tents in a wildlife haven close to the coast... if these tick your holiday boxes (as well they should), you might want to check out Cheglinch Farm Glamping.

Half a mile from the village of West Down and three miles from Ilfracombe, Cheglinch is on a sheltered field on a secluded and family-run dairy farm, with loads of room to run around and plenty of wildlife to spot. Deer, owls and a family of pheasants all visit here, as well as birds and insects of all sorts attracted to the four-acre field's small pockets of marshland.

Each tent comes with a firepit outside so you can sizzle supper against the Devon sunset – perhaps while the kids tear around the huge field, splash in the stream (bring wellies), or get acquainted with the indoor and outdoor play areas. Kids are also welcome to meet the farm's family of guinea pigs, collect eggs, watch calves being fed and see the herd of cows grazing within the hamlet... it's a sure cert they'll like the cow-themed duvet covers in the bell tents too.

Indoors, proper and comfy beds are made up for your arrival, there's a woodburning stove just outside your tent for cosy nights and cooking, and tea lights and fairy lights placed and strung all around. The farm also has a play barn, with games and activities for kids, a dining table for each tent, and fridge, freezer, microwave and laundry facilities. There's electric here too, so you can charge your phone and other gadgets if you really can't face a digital detox.

West Down a short stroll away has a friendly village pub, a play area and a community shop selling local produce.

Everything. Ella and Farmer Simon had literally thought of everything in order to give us an amazing stay at Cheglinch. Perfect venue for all.

    Disliked:

The only thing was that on the first night we were very cold but that’s due to the lovely English temperature. Cheglinch provided extra fluffy blankets, hot water bottles and a fire pit to keep us cosy however we are inexperienced campers so we weren’t as prepared as what we should have been Friday night. Saturday night however was very different. We were very cosy and all slept like babies.

We had a lovely weekend in the lotus tent. Ella was a perfect host, always available to help & answer any questions. The setting is idyllic and the tent, kitchen & bathroom is of high standard for glamping. Looking forward to going back when the wood burning stoves are inside the tent.

Lovely management. Very spacious Belle tent. Comfortable beds, with extra blankets and hot water bottles provided for chillier nights. Clean private shower and private composting toilet per tent. Well equipped outdoor kitchen with the bonus of fridge/freezer and microwave if needed. Extra bonus was a little portable charger that we could charge our phones with overnight!! Management have thought of everything!!

    Disliked:

Would be great to have a little path/board walk between tent and toilet and car parking area so as not to struggle with uneven ground in the dark... But as a new site this season thought it was really well equipped!!

What a wonderful stay we had a wonderful stay at Cheglinch Farm Glamping in July 2018! Everything was perfect! The tents are comfortable and very cosy, we all slept so well. The kitchen was delightful to cook in and has (more than) everything that you'll need. The shower rooms are clean and unlike some camping facilities, you can have a really good shower. Plus it was really great not to have to take everything with you each day - as you have an allocated shower room you can leave everything there for your entire stay. The eco-toilet was clean and despite it being extremely hot, it never smelt and we weren't bothered with flies. Ella, the host, is delightful and made us feel very welcome and relaxed throughout. Our little girl (15 months) loved toddling around the field, playing in the sandpit and exploring the mud-kitchen, as well as talking to the chickens and guinea pigs, meeting the calves and finding all the books and balls in the playbarn. The site was extremely child friendly and we felt very lucky not to have to think about or pack a high chair and travel cot, and for an extra cost, also hired our towels. This was our first camping/glamping experience with our daughter and although we were a little apprehensive about what it would be like, all had a very happy and restful stay. We wish Cheglinch Farm Glamping all the very best for the future and look forward to returning!

Everything. They are amazing glamping tents, the outdoor cooking area with the gas bbq is a very lovely experience and the owners have thought of everything. I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have stayed.

The location is great for the beaches yet is on a lovely clean farm.my baby 9 month old loved being able to see the calf and chickens. And the fresh eggs are amazing.

The tent itself is huge easily big enough for 4 adults and a baby, the beds were so comfy and warm. The showers were lovely and warm and clean.

The cooking facilities were excellent and everything was provided.

I can honestly say that it's true value for money, it's clean and tidy and a true escape from reality.

Thank you to the owners for making us feel so welcome, for our sons first glamping holiday it was perfect.

The whole experience was amazing. The tent was gorgeous, everything was clean and tidy and nothing was too much trouble for the owner. We felt really looked after and my kids were especially welcomed by the lady who ran things. Perfect location, literally a 10 min drive from both Ilfracombe and Woolacombe but the site itself was perfectly placed in the middle of nowhere, total peace apart from the odd relaxing farm noise (a moo, a cockadoodledoo etc). The kitchen area was especially well equipped, it had everything you may ever need plus some things we didn’t expect (eg tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper). The beds were extremely comfortable, the best night sleep we’ve all had in a long time. The shower rooms were good, nice knowing you don’t have to share! The toilet was ok, I think it’s an eco loo or something so no flush. I’ll be honest, it freaked me out at first. But it was absolutely fine, no smells or flies or anything bad that I was expecting. All in all we had a brilliant few days here. My kids would have been happy to just explore the contained field or mess about in the play room, the location meant we could have a couple of really great days out too though. I just wish we could have stayed longer!!
