Playground

  • Valley site among mature trees and landscaped ponds
  • A mile from Haldon Forest Park
  • Playground and modern toilet and shower blocks
Pitching up in the River Kenn valley, on a park surrounded by Devon woodland and countryside, with mature trees and landscaped ponds complete with resident ducks… does this sound like it might fit the bill? If so, take your flock to Haldon Forest Holiday Park, five miles from Exeter and just a mile from the woodland and bike trails of the 3500-acre Haldon Forest Park. Haldon Forest has a playground on the park for kids to go out on a limb under the watchful eye of more mature types. The site also has up to date laundry facilities, plus three modern toilet and shower blocks with heating and free hot water. All in all, you’ll surely find this park all that it’s quacked up to be…

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Free choice of pitch, easy access to taps, fridge/freezer available to use

Disliked Bins overflowing, soap dispensers not refilled when empty, signs up to say no BBQ's or fires allowed but noone enforcing it leading to multiple people having firepits.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This was a lovely rural camp site with plenty of space to play games and set up an awning next to our campervan. The facilities were excellent and very clean. There was no road noise and there were lovely views. It was very peaceful. Close to the Woods for walks and only 20 minutes to Teignmouth. It was very reasonably priced.

Disliked It was close to dog kennels and there was some early morning barking.
There was no site shop or any other shop locally.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lots of space for tent , loved how the bays are marked out so you don't have people right next to you.

The campsite was so empty I was shocked because its such great value and in a fantastic location. My daughter loved the play park , it's great for all ages and all the kids where there. Toilet and showers nice and clean and lots of hot water 24hrs

Disliked Nice to have a little shop just for cold drinks or milk and bread

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely rural / woodland setting.

Disliked Toilet / shower facility could be improved.
My wife would have liked a chair / bench or similar in the shower to sit on to change into her clothes. Push button taps had to be held to dispense water in the gents toilet.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked A warm welcome, big roomy pitches, and pure forest calm — that’s Haldon Forest Holiday Park in a nutshell. It’s a proper hidden gem on the edge of the woods, peaceful, natural, and brilliant for both dogs and kids. Plenty of local attractions close by too, so you’re never stuck for things to do. I’d absolutely recommend it, and I’ll be back next year without a doubt.

Local attractions

Bring the bikes to Devon or hire wheels at Haldon Forest Park to take full advantage of the miles of woodland mountain bike and cycle trails for various levels of ability. Discovery trails, play equipment and several walking trails are also in the forest park including the circular Butterfly Trail and the easy-rated Mamhead Sensory Trail with gorgeous views along the Jurassic Coast and over the Exe estuary. A ten mile horse riding trail is also around for more relaxed forest sightseeing, with horse riding of a different type at the forest’s Exeter Racecourse. Dartmoor National Park, with more hacking, hiking and biking as well as tor climbing, guided walks and geocaching, is a short drive from the holiday park. It has regular events throughout the year, towns and villages to take in, the famous Dartmoor ponies to spot and Dartmoor Zoo with meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. Bring binoculars along with the bikes: the forest park and surrounding area are wildlife havens, with rare birds of prey and wild deer in the forest itself and birdwatching a few miles away at the Site of Special Scientific Interest the Exe Estuary: watch oystercatchers showing excellent culinary taste in breaking open mussels at Bull Hill or take a trip to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren at the estuary’s mouth. If you’re bringing along the bikes, the National Cycle Network Exe Estuary Trail runs to Exmouth from Dawlish. The sublime sand of Dawlish Warren is one of several South Devon sandy stretches, with the beaches at Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay within easy distance of Haldon Forest and the coastal towns of Torquay and Paignton a little further along the coast. Exmouth is the place to don the wetsuit as it’s known for watery sports of all types including diving, windsurfing and sailing; it’s also a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Finally, a stay at Haldon Forest has to include a day or two in Exeter to see its twelfth century cathedral, medieval Guildhall and famous historic quayside with antique shops, restaurants, canoe and boat trips and events such as dragon boat racing and guided tours.
